I thought I would intentionally create a provocative title, but it actually literally means what is says.  I am choking, shaking, and running a fever (I've already seen a doc and am medicated).

So, I was wondering what games folks like to play when they are sick.  I played some Osmos on my iPad (a truly unique and innovative game).  It's very peaceful, low stress, and relaxing.

junk2drive

Solitaire that comes with Windows, 3 card flip.

airboy

I play RPGs like Fallout New Vegas and beer & pretzels wargames like Panzer Corps when I'm sick.

I did this, a lot, while on the pain meds before and after surgeries.

Capn Darwin

Any type of wargame or strat game that is turn based. No need to be dancing for keys or whipping a mouse around when you are feeling sick. Something slow that I can focus on is usually the best.

Rocket Scientist by day, Game Designer by night.

Ah ... narcotics ...

I took some cough medicine last night.  I am like "Gee ... those antibiotics are really kicking in.  I don't feel feverish anymore and the shakes have stopped."  For the h*ll of it, I took my temperature again only to find out that I had gone from a low grade fever to a medium grade fever.

Maybe we need another thread, "Games and opiates".  Another misleading title because it could be referring to England and China opium wars.

It's funny.  My wife got sick first.  So, we are doing the "don't use my glass" thing and "my food separate from yours" thing.  In the meantime, we're passing this iPad back and forth.  If I had to put money on it, I would say that the iPad was the vector!

I used to play a lot of Steel Panthers when I was under the weather.

Haven't been really down and out for a while, but I would typically suggest something low-stress and addicting to distract you. My prescription? Warlock. That should hold your attention, won't get in the way if you have to get up and move from the PC for any reason, and should satisfy you through your convalescence.

Get well soon!

Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, or something turn-based like Civilization. Certainly no action games! Maybe Crusader Kings 2, because you can sort of let it run without too much trouble.

Nefaro

A turn-based game that doesn't take a huge amount of concentration..

I suppose Warlock--Arcane fits this bill just fine.  Or one of the Civs.

I also enjoy some of the better Roguelikes when I'm in this kind of mood, because I only need to move one guy.  ;D  Like Dungeon Crawl or maybe TOME even though the latter has a bit more in the skill use department, Crawl is mostly click-attacks and looting (and dying.. starting over with new build.. yay!).

Toonces

How about Solium Infernum?  That's a pretty slow-paced strategy game that's just made for lazy day playing.

By the way, this made me LOL:

I'm sorry to learn that you are ill, Mark. If you're feeling up to playing some retro games, GOG.com is giving away The Savage Empire and Martian Dreams. I haven't played either one in years, but I thought the price was right.

Here's hoping you and your wife get well soon.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Hmmm, let me guess...Ye Ol' Tussionex. Yeah, when I get a sinus infection I take it and magically, it feels like everythings better...until I wake up and feel like crap again.  I cant concentrate on it though so I try to catch up on movies. Oh well, enjoy the ride!  Maybe Doodle jump?

I just wanted thank you folks for your kind thoughts. It is a URI, but the fever hasn't broke 102. For me, with an artificial heart valve, I got to take infections seriously.

I got admitted through the ER in Macau, China with 104+ in late January on the first day of the lunar new year. That really felt bad. I wasn't delirious, but felt like my head was being pounded with a bat.

So, it's a chance to be lazy when I got huge list of stuff to do. I don't too many such opportunities these days. I am just lounging around and taking it easy. Don't know why bad stuff has such an affinity for metallic aortic valves. I think it has something to do with fluid dynamics.

The other interesting thing although becoming a vegetarian and losing 29lbs so far, I guess the promise of a strengthened immune system is just snake oil hype ... This is my first URI. If not for starting antibiotics yesterday, I think I would be in the ER today. But I don't regret losing 29lbs. It will be of value one way or another.

Hang in there MarkShot.

If you are in the mood for more of a wargame, Commander Europe at War is a good choice, as is Panzer Corps.

I play and RPG like Skyrim or Fallout: New Vegas. I had the flu the week Skyrim came out, so I wondered around taking screenshots few a couple hours each day. When I was finally over it, then I really started playing.

If I'm in a strategy mood, then I'll play Distant Worlds or Crusader Kings II, and turn the time down to slow. When I play Distant Worlds sick I set everything to be under AI control and watch the game play itself.
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic
