Greetings friends,

I would like to introduce you a new game where I have worked mainly in solitaire rules: ONUS: Rome Vs Carthage.

ONUS is a wargame that uses cards instead of counters based on ancient battles the Roman Empire and the Carthaginian ones. It is a betseller in Spain where 1st edition has sold out. Now, the publisher Draco Idea inform us about the release of the ONUS 2ND edition, that shall be for first time published in English language. In a few weeks we are going to start a Kickstarter campaign in order to release it.

The game has a strategic component, because it allows us to extend formations, change them (wall of shields, phalanx, arrow, square formation), or flank enemies using a special counter. In addition we have to decide how to play the order/event cards. They will allow us to give orders to our army and to change the combats and shootings with special features such as ambush, lancers against mounted units, wounding the officials or the general, reinforcing a unit, making a unit veteran, etc. So "orders" allow us to activate units in order to be able to charge, move, heal, change formations, shoot, etc...  and on the other side, events allow us to change a combat adding bonuses or penalties to the dice rolls. For example we can play the event "Wind changes" when the enemy shoots us and she will have some penalties. Or if we charge against a most powerful unit than ours we could use the event "Harangue" that means that our official cheers up our soldiers
giving us some attack bonuses.

I'll keep you informed about news about the game, and about Kickstarter campaign that starts on October, the 14Th.

I hope you like it.

Thank you!!

Wes

This looks interesting...any links for more info?

Looks similar to Battleground in the way the cards are the formations.

Looks similar to Battleground in the way the cards are the formations.

We knew Battleground when we developed ONUS last year and there are significant differences between both. Battleground is a card game while ONUS is more similar to a wargame using cards instead of counters.

Obiously, ONUS use cards as Battleground does and they look similar. The units have to be seen from the top with some frontal angle to be able to notice the illustration details and this is what our illustrator manually did. On the other side, the icons and basic skills they are the usual ones in any wargame, so we have this in common not only with Battleground but also with other wargames. Although the way of using the figures is different.

ONUS box is much bigger because we include rules, over 130 counters and orders/events cards that allow the player to give instructions to her troops (change formations ike wall of shields, arrow formation or phalanx to name a few, flank,...) as well as changing the combat conditions by means events. Just taking a look at what there is inside the box we can notice that the games are completely different.

We hope, we can upload promotional clips and rulesbooks in English so you are able to appreciate in a better way how ONUS is like.

In the meantime we encourage you to share your doubts with us.

Thank you!

That wasn't intended as any sort of doubt. I was just observing what looked like a similarity. I enjoyed Battleground, and this one looks neat, too :)

I definitely like the look of it. You've also timed this perfectly to match my current reading about Carthage. It's almost like you want me to spend money...

I definitely like the look of it.

Very intriguing. How long does an average game take?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Thank you friends for your interest in the game!!  O0

Regarding to game length, in the rules book a few battles have been included, even probably a campaign with from 8 to 10 further battles may be added to the KS campaign as reward.

However ONUS let you play point-based scenarios where players build up their own armies. Game length it depends on the army sizes. Standard game is based in 1000 points armies (about 10 units per side). In that way game length may be from 30 minutes (500-100 points armies) to 120 minutes (about 2000 points armies) depending army size mainly.

I hope you can find this information useful!

I really like the look of those cards as units on the board.  Color me intrigued.   O0

Now in ONUS! the figure of the GENERAL becomes even more prevalent. With the upcoming expansions and since each General has his unique set of skills, there will be a modifier depending on the General and the number of points of your army. Hannibal and Scipio are well balanced.

But, what will happen with the new Generals included in the Greece expansion and those that may be unblocked in the upcoming Kickstarter campaign?

Leonidas, Themistocles, Xerxes, Mardonius, Lysander...

You have to carefully choose your General and your army to win the battle!
