I really hope this edition is good.  I never bought the previous one due to all of the issues being reported with gameplay mechanics.

Me too...

Grim.Reaper

Didn't get much time with the game last night so really no big impressions yet.  The UI looks good and things seem to be pretty easy to find.  Looking at the official forums, haven't really seen any major confirmed issues yet, but it is still early.  Seems biggest discussion is on trade AI logic, but that always happens with every sports game.  I think people focus too much on the player's names versus the actual player represented in the game...therefore they have different expectations....

Hopefully will get some time later tonight to give it a better test drive.

Just a few random screenshots from the game....with the fan based mods included, really like the presentation within the game.

Interface looks a bit improved, which was definitely needed.

I'm still curious about how improved the outcomes and AI management is.

A game like this takes awhile for me to really assess how all the stuff comes together but I have been monitoring the official forums.  I am not as hardcore as many, so I don't always notice all the issues/concerns people bring up.  Sometimes I think should just not visit the forums and I would always think it is great:)  No doubt there are a number of minor issues that have to be worked out and/or tweaked, they have already released one patch to move in the right direction.  From what I can tell it certainly is a much better release than the first one but I am sure it is going to take a number of releases before it becomes completely solid as it can be.

For me, I have noticed more nuisances than really big bugs (i.e. some info missing from screens, missing options, etc.) but your mileage will very depending on your expectations.  I think I will certainly get my $29 worth unless some crazy stuff is found....but hopefully the developers have learned their lesson and enhancements will be made throughout the year.

I think today is the last day for the discount if you buy through ootp store...

Arctic Blast

I didn't ever buy it last year, but I'm in on this one. I'll take a look at it this week.

Grim.Reaper

I think it has promise this year from what I can see, especially if the developers provide routine updates.

JudgeDredd

I wonder if this is a game for me..... ;D

I don't know much about hockey at all except fighting is allowed to a degree!

I was keeping my eye on the one on Steam (East Side Hockey?) - on the one hand, it's cheaper but on the other I've always been impressed with this company's attention to detail....but then on the other hand, they did screw up with last years iteration....and yet on the other, East Side Hockey seems to get great reviews.

And therefore I never buy one because I can't make my mind up!

Easy problem to solve like me....buy both:)

At the moment, Eastside is probably the more complete/stable game but it is unknown how much the developer will evolve the game over time.  Although you can get mods for real players by default it comes with fictional.  User interface is a little dated and doesn't fully support all screen resolutions.  Although fhm may not match its capabilities right now (still has a lot of good stuff) I believe over the long run like ootp baseball it will become the dominate hockey game.

If I had to buy one with all the factors , I would likely invest in fhm and a year ago I wouldn't have said that.

It's pretty much Football rules (of the Soccer type  :P ) on ice, but with the kind of full-on contact that requires pads and helmets.  Using sticks, skates, and a puck instead of kicking a ball back & forth.  Smaller field (rink, in this case) and goals, faster play.

PanzersEast

I've kept my eye on it, but with all the stuff I have now I will wait until a good sale.
