Countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Yes, the trailers look great.  However, one must be reminded of two things: 

1.)  The trailers for The Phantom Menace looked good too. 

2.)  ...As did the trailers for Abrams' so-called "Star Trek" film released in 2009. 


While I want to believe, both history and past performance forces me to retain a healthy dose of skepticism.

Either I'm in the minority, or the hate for Star Trek (2009) is in the minority yet vocal, but I liked the film. Sure, it annoyed me in a few ways (LENS FLARE, sort of JJ's JAZZ HANDS!). But I enjoyed it. The second film was mediocre, but once I appreciated Benedict more, I liked that movie more too.

Trailers can make any bad film look good. Like Fury for instance. Including scenes in the trailer that wasn't even in the movie. Booooooo.

For what it's worth I thought the Star Trek reboot was absolutely brilliant, I'm a huge fan of it.

Into Darkness wasn't bad, actually.  However, it suffered from being the proverbial fruit of the poisoned tree, and it still didn't feel like Trek.

Too true.  Superman Returns is another example.

This is essentially a very well-thought-out argument that Luke is going to be a Sith Lord in this new trilogy...that he's given in to the Dark Side. I gotta admit, his arguments are valid (though several people tried to shoot holes in his theory in the comments...but, of course they did). What he's said makes a lot of sense.

Not too sure about the minority part. The problem is that both movies were mindless, Hollywood fun. But they were NOT Star Trek. At least not MY Star Trek.  ;)

I was really hopeful that this 'reboot' would be offering something new, but the trailers (and now this) are telling me that we're simply in for more of the same.  :-\
