One of those articles stated the Russians aren't necessarily hitting ISIL/ISIS targets, though. I'm willing to bet this bomber force represents pretty much all of their offensive capability, strategic bomber-wise anyway. I wonder how many didn't make the raid due to maintenance issues.

They weren't originally. They were claiming to hit ISIL targets  while actually hitting anti-Assad rebels. That changed after their airliner was blown up.

Ongoing raid in Paris: http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/18/world/paris-attacks/index.html

Two suspects dead, one of whom died when she activated a suicide belt. The French say this group was just about to launch another operation.

I really hope that a component of recent anti-terrorist raids includes other Muslims contacting authorities to identify suspected terrorists.

Totally agree.  It was proven in Iraq that support from Muslims saying enough and working with US and Iraq government to put an end to the terrorists.

If "theirs" a war on grammar, this guy should be in the frontline (and will be the first casualty).

Sir Slash

You guys are forgetting Father Obama told us, the Russians are acting out of weakness. Lets hope they launch some more mass air-weakenings on ISIS's asses soon.

Probably true. However, when doing some background reading I was reminded that our initial heavy bomber attack for Desert Storm was a mere seven bombers. Also that on any given day, due to maintenance issues and the like our entire bomber force is about 57 B-52s, B-1s, and B-2s.

As someone that grew up outside of Wright-Patterson AFB in the 1960s and 70s when the 17th Bomb Wing was stationed there, watching B-52s fly over every six minutes, a bomber force of only 57 flyable aircraft just seems unthinkable to me.  :o

The overall impression I had was that while the Russian bomber force isn't what ours is, it's still the second largest in the world and it's coming back from a low point in the 1990s, with continuing improvements.

How sure are we about that? I've been out of the loop a bit the past few days, but I remember cynically wondering whether they were really going to start doing what they had said they were doing now.
