Booze costs money...usually.  :smitten:

That's kind of an...odd choice for another Marvel show franchise.

I can't disparage it at all, as it looks intriguing, but that's kind of random of them.

mirth

Yes and no. It fits with the corner of the Marvel Universe that Netflix is building.

^^ True. They're writing for a grittier street-level group of characters. Spider-man and Doctor Strange (oddly enough) are main bridges between the Avenger-level Marvel heroes and the, well, grimy level -- it's no accident they're being positioned to factor heavily into Phase Three (and afterward).

JJ fits well because, in canon, she was a promising Avenger-level hero, though a tad underpowered (more along the lines of Daredevil and her eventual comics husband Power Man than, say, Captain Marvel), who got really, really, REAAAALLLY messed up by an Avenger-level villain (played by former Ten Doctor Who David Tennant, in a role that's bound to lead to a lot of questionable fantasies by Whovians of a certain orientation -- or a lot more of them ;) ). So she dropped back to street level in an attempt to deal with it.

Anyway, it isn't random. If you're going to have a set of series about Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (Danny Someoneoranothercan'trecallwhooffhand), and want a heroine in that mix, Luke's wife Jessica is the obvious choice.

That looks pretty awesome. Love the actress.

Huh, I didn't see it that way, mirth and JP. Excellent points re: gritty/street.

NETFLIX Daredevil -> Jessica Jones -> Luke Cage -> Iron Fist -> Defenders

The MCU version of the Defenders won't include the Beast, Silver Surfer (Fox), or Namor (Universal).

JasonPratt

Or the Hulk or Doctor Strange (who with the Surfer and Namor constitute the classic core Defender non-team. Peter David, writing about their re-non-team up during his epic Hulk run many years ago, had to find a way around a prophecy that the world would end if they all teamed up again. His solution: Strange just made that up in order to have a little less stress in his life.  :2funny: )

Another cosmic-level Defender, the Valkyrie, probably won't join either, but I fully expect Hellcat to show up eventually, maybe as an expendable plot casualty. (Night Nurse has already been set up in the Daredevil show, and sounds like she's being positioned as the initial thread bringing the Defenders together eventually.)

AND SO IT SHALL OCCUR, ACCORDING TO THE PROPHECY! -- "Actress Rachael Taylor plays [Patsy Walker] in the television series Jessica Jones, set to premiere on Netflix in 2015." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellcat_%28comics%29

Now we wait... shall she be sacrificed to the plot before or after the Defenders defend...le?

I knew the character originally appeared as part of a romantic-comedy comic long, long ago; and that in comics canon those comics actually exist (I mean as romantic-comedy comics within Marvel continuity) written by Patsy's mom, based roughly on actual escapades of Patsy and her friends.

What I didn't know until a minute ago, is why the modern author(s) went so far to integrate this minor character into the Marvel superhero continuity: because Patsy Walker, along with Journey Into Mystery, were the first comics ever officially known as "Marvel Comics"!

So who's watched this on Netflix? Any good?

eyebiter

It's an excellent series but definitely NSFW.  Don't let the young children watch it, or they will have nightmares.

Lots of drinking, bloody violence, and adult situations.

Nefaro

The first episode didn't entice me at all.  Maybe I'll force myself to slog through another one or two just because I like Krysten Ritter.

BanzaiCat

The first one wasn't bad but I feel like I have to watch it again as I wasn't really sure what was going on in a couple of places. I was distracted too and kept getting interrupted so that certainly had something to do with it.
