Release date, DLC, special editions announced for Total War: Warhammer

Sega has announced that Creative Assembly's Games Workshop-licensed tactical real-time-strategy game, Total War: Warhammer, will be hitting store shelves on the 28 April, 2016. The publisher also revealed two special editions of the game, the Limited Edition and the High King Edition, as well as a preorder bonus. Gamers who preorder Total War: Warhammer will get the first downloadable content pack for free, the Chaos Warriors Race Pack: The DLC includes three playable Legendary Lords, as well as unique new mounts, units, monsters and magic items. The Limited Edition will be available in stores, which comes in an embossed metal case and an Insider Guide, which is a printed strategy guide including tactical advice on battlefield combat. The limited run High King Edition will also include the Insider Guide and the metal embossed disc case, but will also come in a large metallic gold and 3D sculpted box. The box additionally contains a Slayer's Whetstone Pendant made of real whetstone, a Grudge Ring with a rotating inner band, a carved metallic Dwarfen Drinking Horn & Stand from which to quaff spirits (or non-alcoholic beverages), a canvas map of the game world, and an artbook.

O look more DLC that you only get via preorder ala Greek City States.
This will be the first TW title I haven't bought in a long long time.

I hope the Chaos Warriors are a separate new faction.

The info on that page seems a bit ambiguous about that.  Dunno if "New Race" just means they get one or two new unit types, but use mostly a mix of rehashed ones from the others (as was the case with TW Rome 2 for example).

I dunno about the rest of the game but CA has totally managed to capture the feel of GW's pricing schemes.

No, but CA/Sega has made the Chaos faction available only to those who pre-order the game (at least for now), which has pissed off fans enormously -- not least which because they're considered a core race. 

I'm not that familiar with the WH universe, but -- to use an analogy -- from what I understand, that would be rather like someone developing a new Star Trek grand-strategy game (i.e, my impossible dream of a sequel to Birth of the Federation), but then only making the Klingons available as a playable faction if one pre-ordered it -- which would indeed be a pretty shitty thing to do.

But, yes, your Star Trek/Klingon simile is an appropriate one.

I'm guessing it'll be the same as what they did with the TW Rome 2 pre-order, when that included the Greek States DLC pack.  IIRC, you could purchase it separately after release but it cost you more in total.
