I don't have a problem with anyone sharing thoughts and prayers, but when it comes from a politician - any politician - for me, being as jaded and cynical as I am, it comes across as pandering, or at the very least, disingenuous.

That said, I'd like to believe that our leadership/candidates aren't that heartless, but I'm sure there's levels of heartlessness among them. Some truly believe what they're saying, others couldn't care less, but they say it regardless because they know they have to say something. If that makes any sense.

Everyone here thinks that most politicians are weasels.

Rafia Farook, the mother of San Bernardino terrorist Syed Rizwan Farook, is an active member of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a Muslim organization that promotes the establishment of a caliphate and has ties to a radical Pakistani political group called Jamaat-e-Islami.

Farook's affiliation with ICNA was revealed on Friday when MSNBC and other new outlets scoured the Farooks' apartment in Redlands, Cal. An MSNBC reporter found a certificate of appreciation presented to Safia Farook last summer by ICNA's sisters' wing.

At least 72 employees at the Department of Homeland Security are listed on the U.S. terrorist watch list, according to a Democratic lawmaker.

Rep. Stephen Lynch (D., Mass.) disclosed that a congressional investigation recently found that at least 72 people working at DHS also "were on the terrorist watch list."

"Back in August, we did an investigation—the inspector general did—of the Department of Homeland Security, and they had 72 individuals that were on the terrorist watch list that were actually working at the Department of Homeland Security," Lynch told Boston Public Radio.

"The [former DHS] director had to resign because of that," he said.

DHS continues to fail inspections aimed at determining the efficiency of its internal safety mechanisms, as well as its efforts to protect the nation.

San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook shared ISIS' ideology, wanted to see the establishment of an Islamic caliphate and was fixated with Israel, Farook's father told an Italian newspaper during an interview in which he also offered his own unusual ideas about Israel.

"My son said that he shared [ISIS leader Abu Bakr] Al Baghdadi's ideology and supported the creation of the Islamic State," said Farook's dad, also named Syed Farook, who lives in Corona, Calif., with another son who is a Navy veteran. "He was also obsessed with Israel."

"I told him he had to stay calm and be patient because in two years Israel will not exist anymore," the elder Farook told La Stampa in an article published Sunday. The foreign language daily's report was translated in part by The Times of Israel.

"Geopolitics is changing: Russia, China and America don't want Jews there anymore. They are going to bring the Jews back to Ukraine. What is the point of fighting? We have already done it and we lost. Israel is not to be fought with weapons, but with politics. But he did not listen to me, he was obsessed," the father said in the interview, according to The Times of Israel.
