I was underwhelmed. It DID feel like a Star Wars movie, but it took so many plot devices from the 'good' Star Wars flicks that it felt like a rehash/re-imagining/reboot (which I guess it technically was, but still...). Not to say it was bad; I just left the theater feeling unfulfilled.

Maybe hindsight will increase this movie's importance once the third and final film (well, final for this trilogy, anyway) is released and it can all be kept in perspective. It's a much better movie than I, II, and III combined, that's for sure.

Carrie Fisher sounded horrible. Yeah, I said it. I guess decades of drinking and smoking will make you sound more metallic than a Star Wars droid. Age, too. :)

Your thoughts echo my own, BC (although I think I may have liked the movie a little more than you did).  While I enjoyed it well enough, I was not blown away like so many people have been.  I don't know if that's because most folks' view of the film is a little rose-colored, if my standards are too high, a combination of the two, or something else entirely.

Didn't she also have a stroke several years back?  If so, I imagine that wouldn't help matters any.

Your thoughts echo my own, BC (although I think I may have liked the movie a little more than you did).  While I enjoyed it well enough, I was not blown away like so many people have been.  I don't know if that's because most folks' view of the film is a little rose-colored, if my standards are too high, a combination of the two, or something else entirely. 

Personally, I think a lot of the hype and reactions to the film depend on what the original Star Wars meant to you when they came out in 1977.  If you weren't big into Star Wars back then and the original trilogy, the additional prequels and Force Awakens would "just be another movie" for many folks and that is completely understandable.  Of course I will sound geeky, but when SW originally came out, I was at a prime age where all the lore and toys were extremely popular and just about everything I owned and played with (toys, clothes, games, books, etc.) was Star Wars related.  I probably saw each of the original SW movies ten times in the movie theatres because my family and friends were also heavy into it.

If I wouldn't have that kind of background, Force Awakens likely would be just another average watchable movie to me......so for me the prequels (I know people will shoot me) and Force Awakens just click with me in a different way then all other movies and I will always watch whatever they put out Star Wars related and enjoy them:)

I was 8 when the first movie came out, so yep, I was in that prime audience. Loved the original movies, loved the toys, loved everything about it.

I was a baby when A New Hope came out, and I was six when Return of the Jedi was released (and which I got to see it in the theater with my dad).  So a little younger, but I'd guess I still qualify as being part of the original Star Wars generation. 


Of course, while I've always loved Star Wars, I'm an even bigger fan of Star Trek.  I grew up watching reruns of TOS with my father in the living room, and we both wept openly when Spock died at the end of Wrath of Khan.  So that may affect my perspective in any number of ways, both directly and indirectly.  ;)

That's the funny thing and I will take a lot of heat.....I simply couldn't stand Star Trek and still don't like it:)  I tried to get into it several times, but never clicked for me.
