WOW! Knew nothing about this film before viewing. Loved it. Can't recommend it enough. I do hear it's not accurate to his story but that aside as a film it's beautiful.

I had seen some tidbits of the guy's story it was based upon.

But judging from the movie preview.. there's some overdone love story jammed into it? Not surprising, being Hollywood, but I'm wondering just how far off track it has gone.

Don't get me wrong, it looks interesting and I've debated going to see it sometime. Just don't want to be disgusted by jarring fantastical additions to something based on a true story.

No very little if any love story..just flashbacks occasionally of his dead wife thats all..

I usually moan about love stories dropped into War films etc..but really it wasn't the case with this film.

Honestly no one should miss out due to preconceived ideas. It's a beautiful film to watch.

There is a love element to the film but the Father and son kind of love.

There was a movie from back in the 70's this was re-done from or else an exact copy of the story. Can't remember the name and it's driving me crazy. Maybe Richard Harris starred in it?

There was a Liam Neeson movie called "The Gray" that came out a few years back (2011) which "The Revenant" reminds me of. The Gray was a pretty good movie, but I'm not paying money to see DiCaprio's Oscar expedition.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford? It's a very similar movie.

Man in the Wilderness (1971), they renamed the character to avoid paying royalties on the novel.

Yeah, I think that's it. SPOILER ALERT!!! Based on a true story of a guy mauled by a bear and then the guys left to bury him after he died just went ahead and buried him. But he didn't die. Seems like the guy's name was "Cobb". Good movie but I can't remember how it ended up. Thank you Eyebiter.

The wife and I saw this one last pm. While well done in some places and with beautiful scenery, I got to say the movie otherwise was not that good. I think I liked the '71 film better. It never did say what year or where the movie is supposed to be taking place and they had to throw the obligatory Indians being massacred by white soldiers scenes. Top it off with a totally lame and dumb ending and it's a sure Oscar winner. My 2 cents.
