DCS Red Flag Campaign

I bought the F-15C Red Flag campaign for DCS World 2 and have been playing and replaying mission 1 to get a feel for the aircraft, it's kit and capabilities.

I was quite excited when the Red Flag Campaign for the A-10C came out. However, it's very disappointing to see "repeated" text in those briefings. At least the intro and Mission 1.

For the intro, they've basically swapped out F-15 for A-10 or Hawg.

When I read the intro for the F-15C, I was pleasantly surprised at how they made it quite personal and like a pilot journal entry. But reading the A-10C one, which is almost word for word a copy, has taken that totally down. It's rather sad.

I have no idea about the missions themselves and I imagine they will be different. But the intro and mission one blurb should have been individualistic to the airframe, pilot and tour.

I've heard complaints about the A-10 campaign in that several of the missions start in the air or on the runway with a hot aircraft. Some are complaining that it is a real immersion killer.

I can't get past the first F-15 mission. Kept crossing "FEBA" and failing the mission. After some resarch they say the Bullseye is the first waypoint and you are actually not supposed to reach it. Go figure. I didn't read too much of the briefing.

^ I did the same thing and indeed - the briefing is very important and lets you know WP1 is the BE and should be avoided. ;D

That's bad news about being in the air if that's true. Immersion is key.

And that was my beef about the briefing - immersion killer.

We'll see. It's early doors. I might actually go back to the F-15 one first anyway - I just wanted to fire it up and do the inbound mission to see what gives and noticed the briefings were very similar.

Edit: I re-read the mission breifing and there is not a single indication where FEBA was. Apparently there is a docs folder for the campaign with several sets of PDFs per mission. There is a wealth of information there including important kneeboard stuff (flight plan and map). But these stuff should be rendered in your in-game kneeboard in the first place! Looks like a limitation of the Flaming Cliffs aircraft. No casual player would actually look for these docs as they don't know it exists. I should be good to go knowing this exists. A definite must-read.

Well finished the first mission. A success despite wrecking the plane.

^ How did you do that on the first mission? It's only a fly into theatre, CAP for 20 minutes and land.

There is an incursion to deal with I guess.

If that happened when landing, remember you have to keep the nose of the F-15 up even on touch down so those big bugger wings help slow the plane down. The brakes will blow the tires is continually pressed and also skew the aircraft all over the place...so bleeding speed by keeping the nose up on landing is essential.

As for the documents, you are correct. When the campaign was released, that folder wasn't even there!! I found out from the forums they forgot to include it.

Once you're in the air, though, you really have to know Nevada (like Bunyapsims) to know visually where the FEBA is - otherwise it's very easy to cross it. Although crossing the FEBA is only an issue in the first mission from what I gather.

As I mentioned, there's an incursion and you're told there's an enemy flight low over "The Farms"...well, I had no idea where "The Farms" were, and spent the first 2 or 3 attempts at trying to locate them only to find, on all 3 attempts, I had crossed the FEBA.

There are definitely issues with the campaign (at least the F-15C campaign). Issues with the briefing at least. These are pointed out by Bunyapsims on Youtube. However, he still has a blast.

I didn't bother fighting during the first mission despite the go ahead. That wreck was my own doing. Can't seem to stop the plane.

Yeah. Damn landing! Tried the landing mission for hours until I got pretty consistent with not wrecking the plane. The key is as you said, keep nose up until 100kts or slower. Also adjusted sensitivity of the stick.

Yep. I wrecked a few F-15s on landing too. I was like "WTF are the brakes? THE BRAKES...THE BRAKES!!!!"...checking key bindings and everything.

You should look for Bunyapsims videos on youtube. He's doing a set on the F-15C Red Flag campaign now.

I haven't flown FC3 much at all and I should do. It's got the right level of control for me.

Yeah. I really have to stop study sims for a while until Sengoku Jidai is released.

Back to DCS. It looks like I should be concentrating on one plane and fly it to death. That is the F-15C for now. I will finish Red Flag and that campaign from Flaming Cliffs. After that, I can move on to another plane. I am leaning on the Su-25T. Impressed after playing a few of the tutorial missions. But of course another option is the A-10C which have a lot of campaign possiblities (1 stock, 1 add-on for Georgia, Red Flag). But it's harder to re-learn once again after not flying it for a while.

What is that by the way, with all the time I've spent with Xplane and prepar3d this last month I've come across a few guys with that sig.

I fired up the new 2.0 for the first time And that Nevada map has got to be the most beautiful map I've ever seen in a flight sim. I get great fps but as soon as I start to pan around with TIR I get some choppyness might have to do some tweaking. The hard drive footprint is insane, just Nevada and 5 of my 15 planes was 45 gigs, might have to switch to my bigger ssd.

I'm now on Mission 3. Radio is not working from cold ramp start. This is an FC3 aircraft so I suppose it is auto-tune compared to A-10C.
But I've been reading a lot about this issue for A-10C also.

Edit: Problem solved itself.

Finished mission 3. First real combat. Didn't get to shoot anyone down though. :/
