Chris England of Goldhawk Interactive has officially announced that Xenonauts 2 is now in production. They're using Unity this time round too.

I've heard good things about Xenonauts. In fact, I just installed it yesterday and took a quick look around. I think once I finish both XCOM games I'll play it. Good to see them continue working on it.

On a related note, this thread reminded me of UFO 2 Extraterrestrials. It was supposed to have been out already. They are saying Spring this year but I'm starting to think this might be vaporware.

"You know, just once I'd like to meet an alien menace that wasn't immune to bullets."
-Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

"There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you!"
-The Doctor

I'd rather have the 2D hand drawn stuff than 3D in Unity.  Bleh.

Xenonauts 1 was absolutely finished and is a rock-solid game.  It very much resembles the original X-Com title, but with updated graphics.  There's none of the "dumbing down" or classes associated with Firaxis' follow-on titles.  There's little innovation from that original title, but the execution off the original recipe is excellent.

I played it for quite a while (91 hours, Steam tells me) and enjoyed it immensely, although I wasn't quite able to finish it before giving up and moving on to other titles.  The writing is very good (even better than the original X-Com, IMHO) and the complementary novella that comes with it is first-rate in setting the tone even better.
