I am not a specialist, but I enjoy these type of games usually, the thing that turned me off was not the lack of difficulty, rather than the concept of the game, the game sat in medieval theme, but for me I do not see any medieval  city or feudal system here, you can change it to any other theme and it will work just fine.
The thing is I was expecting more from the game, the price suggest it has more to do rather than just trade route and get almost all the resources you need from trade or building new cities, diplomacy and warfare are really shallow, and the city or province system can be much more improved.
Maybe my expectation was too high, that is why I just didn't continue to dig deeper into the game, I stopped playing before the second patch came, I think I should take the game less seriously and try it again.

I understand you and i have to say that this is also what disappointed when i started to play in september. I was too much expecting a Knights of Honor experience and was underwhelmed at first. But once i played again last week, it sucked me in. I've also played some Patrician III lately and in Grand Ages you can do so much more. I also think that city walls helps to give this visual medieval flavour. It's not perfect but the game world is so well done....

Some videos helped me really get into the game:

^You have single-handedly turned this thread around!

LOL....but too late for last week's Steam sale.
Yeah, sorry. I am sure it's going to be on sale again soon.

Raied

Thanks Anguille, I will install it this weekend, seems a lot of nice visuals added in the later patches.

Funny enougth, this made me start my first real campaign of Lords of the Realm on my netbook  (handy whilst on the go)  :D

I played Lords of the Realm 2 a lot back in the days....

Gusington

How many patches have there been? It is the patches that appear to really have turned the game around.

Don't think so.

As far as i can see, there's been 2 patches and one large update (or bigger patch). I believe the biggest reason for the negative reviews lies in the wrong expectations. Conquest comes only late and is not the main aspect like in Knights of Honor for instance. It's a slow and relaxing game where you have time and space to expand before it gets crowded.

Gusington

Well then I can certainly dig that as well.

Bloody hell, Anguille.  You've made me add this game (back) onto my Steam wishlist.

Ok so I played through about an hour of the tutorial campaign and I have to say the attention to detail is excellent - it's clear that the developers love the subject matter. Question - the campaign has assigned me to sell 300 barrels of any combo of commodities in the town of Constanta. Right now it doesn't look like that town has enough money to buy...do I just wait and speed up the game until they have enough money?

Sell them 300 barrels of Gold Bars and then they'll have the money.  ;D

They should have enough money. Use also one merchant that you control manually to speed up the sale.
