That preview looked more like a Fireworks stand set ablaze than an ancient Chinese battle.   ;D

Well, the heroes in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms do have "magic" powers. It's the main reason they are represented in these games (like putting on fire etc) and it does make sense in that perspective. However, i find the way it was done in Sango and Sango 2 to be more elegant.

Will the price still be steep? I'm guessing 'yes.'

The price is $89.99 U.S. on Steam and there is a warning that English language not supported. Hopefully it will at least be in English later.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Yeah English is coming already. That why we are getting the promos. But for some reason I don't get good vibes from this iteration. It seems to have used the engine of Nobunaga's Ambition but with more fancy (fantasy) chrome.

The extra fantasy theme has definitely increased in the series.   :o

Not sure when they started adding Ancient Chinese Sorcery to RoTK, but I don't recall it being in the earlier console versions in the 90s.  Or is my memory pretty bad?  Or maybe I'm thinking only of Nobunaga's despite having played a version of each?  The RoTKs were more historically themed back then, weren't they?

I recall playing them along with other Koei strategy stuff like PTO and PTO II.

Increasingly so, it seems.

English version is out today.  $50 is a bit high for a "sale" price, but that was also the "sale" price for Nobunaga's Ambition as well.

I liked XI a lot, so I'll probably grab this today despite the price.

Same here. It's a hell of a micromanagement job. ???

Quite a few reviews are saying the gameplay got worse since XI.   :-\

I've only played the first two chapters of the tutorial ("Hero Mode"), but I'm liking some of the changes to diplomacy, particularly the fact that you can't just recruit someone willy-nilly, you actually have to be introduced to them by a third character first, and also the quid-pro-quo of the "favor" system.  Mercifully, debates are now limited to no more than 5 rounds, instead of the endless tedium of XI.

At the same time the combat is now real time (pausable) and greatly simplified, relying almost completely on rock-paper-scissors (from what I've seen so far, anyway).
