Star Trek movies ranked worst to first!

Really TMP is the example of what was very wrong with many of  the Phase II scripts. 

TMP was a victim of Roddenberry and his vision of what Star Trek should be.

Very true, his very heavy hand is all over the film. 

TNG season 1 is even more an example on this.  The documentary "Chaos on the Bridge" is an amazing insight into that. 

I love what Roddenberry gifted the world with Star Trek, but wasn't the best thing for it after it took off. 

Of course he was still better than Berman, Braga or Fred Freiberger.

Ha!  Speak for yourself. 

Although, kidding aside, maybe we all do.  There's so much Star Trek that it's easy to pick out the parts you love and hate. 

I absolutely love the first to seasons of TOS, most of DS9 and all but the bottom tier episodes of TNG.  I'm about 50/50 with the films and absolutely can't stand, even for a moment Voyager. 

Enterprise, well, that's another very very long winded, super nerdy reply that goes over my problems with their approach to the canon, starship design lineage, Federation history, and my absolute disgust at the introduction, AGAIN of Time Travel.

DS9 is easily my favorite. I'm about due for a re-watch, actually.

Next it's a toss-up between Voyager and TOS. TOS had so many cringe-worthy moments, even back in the early 80s when I was first watching them. My dad always had it on before SNL (you know, when SNL was funny) and I got hooked on it.

TNG isn't bad but it comes up next on my list. The first two seasons were atrocious, but it really came into its own soon after that. Thing is, though, I've tried to re-watch it a few times on Netflix, but I just can't get into it like I can into Voyager or DS9 or even TOS. :(

Alright Banzai Cat.  Done!  I really want my place at the bottom of that lake, so I'm going to give my top and bottom ten Star Trek Episodes.   

TOP!

1. City on the Edge of Forever - TOS: Written by Harlan Ellison.  The look on Kirk's face when he stops Bones.  Spock's agony for his friend.  I don't know.  It's something stunningly amazing and shows off the fact that the actors that worked on TOS WERE in fact very good at their craft, all of them.  Still, it's a hard time putting it at number one because number two was so, brutally good.  Possibly the most underrated episode in Trek.

2. The Visitor - DS9 - Honestly, one of the only episodes of Star Trek that made me cry.  Hugo Nominated, but lost to an equally good episode of Babylon 5.  Still, as much as I loved B5, this was better and the Hugo voting was actually deeply biased voting against it and it's created a huge rift in the actual relevancy of the Hugo since.  Tony Todd was amazing in this.  I honestly find it hard to watch, even harder than the episode at number 1.  Amazing stuff, and the best that Trek really has to offer. 

3. Space Seed - TOS:  Well, of course.  Khan.  Such men dare take what they want.  The fact that Kirk gets a nemesis that his is equal, he spars with him like a chess player, and does not, completely win is magnificent. 

4. Amok Time - TOS: Jim...JIM!  Yep. 

5. The Trouble with Tribbles - TOS: The core of the light and fun in Star Trek.  Still one of the most iconic episodes ever made.

6. The Inner Light - TNG : Still the best TNG episode ever.  Picard's journey is something that is hard to accept and deal with, but he does it with his normal strength.  But what he lives through stays with him in future episodes.  The best of TNG.

7. The Best of Both Worlds 1,2 - TNG:  The Borg are the most horrifying, direct and disturbing foe ever in Star Trek.  These two episodes were the height of their absolute, disturbing terror.  They were the inevitable going to far for intrepid explorers of Star Trek. 

8. Measure of a Man - TNG: The best of early TNG.  The moment where we really have to address the concept of what is sentient, what gives us the right to address that concept, and what implications come from our placing a mantle of judgment on ourselves.

9. Chain of Command - TNG:  THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!  Master thespian Patrick Stewart ladies and gentlemen. 

10. Mirror Mirror - TOS: To the Agony booth with you if you disagree!  A great high, sci-fi episode about alternate universes, and an exploration of how just a few twists and turns can become good or evil. 

And.....the bottom 10...

10. Spock's Brain - TOS: Typically put at number one, it IS awful, but not as bad as some others.  A disjointed mess that most of the cast was clearly uncomfortable with.

9. Shades of Grey -TNG: Star Trek's only clip show.  Not higher because it was the result of a strike and budget problems.  Pretty much unwatchable, but a product of bad times and was not the intent of anyone involved in the production.

8. Justice - TNG:  Utopian sexy times and Wes in trouble!  "I'm with Starfleet, we don't lie!"  I sort of had a sexual awakening with the outfits on the hot super sex aliens watching this when I was a kid though, so it's not higher.

7. The Neutral Zone - TNG:  Wow, the most obscenely moralistic episode of Star Trek ever.  Crusher "In the 20th Century people were actually afraid of DYING!".  SUCH BARBARIANS the crew announces.  A brutish, cruel, obscenely judgmental episode on the horrors of 20th century society.  Picard, whom I love, is a total space dick here, dismissing the 20th century castaways as little more than flesh chewing cannibalistic Neanderthals. 

6. The Omega Glory - TOS:  First, REALLY STARFLEET!  Another insane starship captain?  I mean, is every single serving Constitution class captain insane except  Kirk?  Your psych eval program is really, deeply lacking.  Aside from that, the blitheringly insane alt earth concept is deeply overused here and at this point just hurts. 

5.  The Way to Eden - TOS:  Stepping into Eden, yay brother.  Seriously, I like to watch this one deeply drunk and I sing along.  So maybe it's not so bad.

4. Profit and Lace - DS9:  DS9 has some amazing and truly AWFUL episodes.  This is almost the worst of them.  Quark in a dress is  too much for me to deal with.

3.  Threshold - VOY- The worst show has only one of the top ten worse episodes.  Still, this one has virtually no redeeming qualities.  Hot lizard sex between the crew is not really what I was looking forward to. 

2. A Night in Sickbay - ENT:  You know, I mean, I guess I like that Archer loves his dog.  But nothing else about this episode is good.  Archer is a diplomat on the level of Donald Trump at a Muslim pride rally.  It's boring, it's absurd, it makes the characters insane and unlikable.   There were episodes of ENT that made me more MAD, but none that made me more sickeningly upset to actually be watching TV and not doing something productive like huffing paint or murdering a transient than this one.

1. Let He Who is Without Sin - DS9:  Stunning that a show with so much good can have such an unredeemingly bad episode.   Worf and Dax on Risa, acting like they're completely insane and totally bad for each other, honestly ruining their relationship for me for the rest of the show.  Brutally insane pro-isolationist Trump like Feddies.  Ridiculous story line of Worf even REMOTELY sympathizing with these turds.  A brutally boring, deeply uninteresting script that just makes you want to see the credits, hopefully through an alcohol induced haze.  Maybe more than alcohol.

At least it has Chase Masterson in a bath showing very, very wonderfully large amounts of cleavage.  Still, not enough to make this at all even remotely redeemable as an hour of entertainment.

I'm not NEARLY nerdy enough to rank actual episodes, SirAndrewD (LOL). But, I would have to say 'The Visitor' is the best Star Trek episode across ALL shows, period. At least, IMO.

The crying bit...yep. That episode was disturbingly powerful.

Spock's Brain is the best episode. Not just for Trek, but in the entire history of television.
