I'm not a big arcade guy - but the 3.5k upright arcade game works very well.  I saw lots of people playing it at the Southern Fried Game Expo back in Atlanta in June.

I got my new Pinball machine this week.  It is an electronic simulation that plays 351 pinball games.  It is amazing.  The Pinball FX2 games on this machine have to be seen to be believed.  Most of the simulations of classic arcade pinball games (about 290 of those) are quite good.

Yes I did.
A brand new pinball machine that plays one table costs $6,500.  What I bought plays 350+ pinball games. 

If the thing holds up it was a great purchase for me.  Probably not for you, but great for me.

I've played 2 different arcade game cabinets at Southern Fried Game Expo.  They are neat - but I like pinball a lot more.

I suggest that if you are ever interested in one of these things, go to a pinball or arcade game convention where a manufacturer is present and play one extensively.  I played the machine that I bought about 5 hours over 3 days before deciding to buy.

The ones I've seen over the last 2 years use a flat screen.  When the CRTs break or wear out people replace them with flat screens.

The last CRT monitor I owned, long ago, was a flat screen model (Sony Trinitron flat screen iirc).  Bought it back in '01 or '02.  Just a few years later, everything quickly shifted to LCD monitors, and I was immensely grateful for it.  Don't miss CRTs in the least.
