Sorry, I'm an idiot. I wish I could unsee that pic of him as an old man but that look on his face I thought was awesome. But I redacted the pic because I think you guys are right, he should be remembered as he looked to us.

Like mirth, I think my difficulty with this is that as we get older we're losing more of the generation that preceded us every day. Gene and many, many others populated the movies and entertainment that we grew up loving and appreciating, and it shaped our sense of humor in unique and everlasting ways. I think that means when they pass, it feels like a loss of a family member, even though I never even met the man in person.

If you enjoyed Blazing Saddles, then you will enjoy Young Frankenstein.  Mel Brooks at his best and I think Gene Wilder was even better at playing Dr Frankenstein, than the sheriff in BS.

Admittedly the parts of YF I've actually seen aren't as funny as I expected. I think I haven't watched it in fear of not liking it nearly as much as some other Mel Brooks/Gene Wilder films.

LOL yeah.  I meant the sheriff's buddy.

Granted, Young Frankenstein doesn't really have the plethora of racial jokes that Blazing Saddles did.  So it's not quite so in-your-face.  But it does lampoon classic gothic horror & movies based on it, with some enjoyable character portrayals.  More subtle humor. 

I also saw part of YF as a kid and didn't take much interest in it.  But I really enjoyed it as an adult, watching the whole thing many years later.  The actors & actresses all did a great job.  Also realized Teri Garr was very hot back in the mid 70s.  :o

She was also hot in the 60's on an episode of ST:TOS, Assignment: Earth. BTW, I'd read a rumor somewhere that the episode in question was meant to be a springboard for a spinoff series with the two featured guest stars as the new series' leads.

She did some movie with Robert Downey, Jr. She was very MILFy in that one if I remember right. It was a very strange movie too. At least, I think it was RDJ. He was supposedly her husband reincarnated, or something like that.

Google keeps telling me its First Born, but no, Google, it's not. This is going to drive me nuts now.

Pity about Gene Wilder. I liked his acting, especially the first half of 'Hear no evil, see no evil' with Richard Pryor (although the funniness of the film started to fall apart in the second half, but whatever). Apparently, he was a very nice guy as well. RIP Gene. :(
