OK, here is something I've been wondering about- taking Canadians' understanding of 'Merican regional differences as a given... what part of the USA would you Northern Brothers think most approximates the Quebecois in the eyes of the rest of the States?

I think you spelled "merde" wrong.

Sir Slash

Cajuns are America's Quebec'ers. They don't shave either.  ;D

I don't know.... what part of the States wants the government to spend all their money there but wants to separate and keep it all and still use the currency and the military?  :P

I think the equivalent in Germany is Bavarians... but that's just a guess...  ;)

Texas?

I think you'd find a lot of Texans taking umbrage with that...though the real truth is there are very few native Texans anymore (me included, actually, even if I've been here since 1978 or so).

Vermont.
Uber powerful government that spends like mad.  Broken State for starting a business.  Armed to the teeth (you can carry in the State Capital).  Feels superior to every other State because their system is "so great" even though nobody wants to live there because of the people already there, the restrictive laws and high taxes.  And ...... Without Maple Syrup the economy would fail completely.

Well... I guess that's doubly true since many of their French-speaking ancestors moved there after being driven out of Quebec by the British military long ago. :knuppel2:

Then they got sold to the US.   ;D

^ And I have NO doubt that there are parts of Louisiana that are unaware of that change of status.

If you've seen the historical documentary film Southern Comfort, the last time the US military attempted to occupy their rich croc-breeding and meth-making grounds, their guerrilla war of cousin-lovin' offspring were more than a match for our National Guard professionals. Even Powers Boothe couldn't stand up to their toothless admiration of the weekend warrior's 'purty mouths.'

;D

Sir Slash

I learned a long time ago the hard way not to confuse Cajun with Creole. Hell, it's all French to me.

Replace "Maple Syrup" with "Something Else" and you'd be describing California.
