The 9 Years War and Great Northern War series of scenarios that have been done recently are fantastic. They really show off just what's capable with the game. Cyrano and I are doing a PBEM of the massive Blenheim scenario right now. Fantastic stuff!

If the Blenheim scenario works out, does it seem possible there could be a whole series of Marlburian/Louis XIV battles?
That would be a lot of virgin wargaming territory.

I'm hoping so. Given that all of the major battles of the Nine Years War have been done and a good bit of the Great Northern War, it's not a huge jump to cover the War of Spanish Succession. There have also been some later battles done, like all of the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. So, the system works pretty well for the period into the mid-18th Century.

The biggest challenges I see as you start to try and make it work for the Seven Years War and later are the limits on the overall number of units, the lack of leaders as in Sengoku Jidai, and the lack of formations for anything other than artillery. Blenheim gets around the first problem by making units brigades rather than battalions and squadrons, and it generally seems to work. The last issue (formations) isn't much of an issue for Blenheim, but there are battles where it could be an issue. The lack of leaders and command radius is an issue in these battles though. It allows for a level of command control that's not realistic for the period at all.  Of course, that applies to all of the earlier period battles as well, so it's really something you have to just acknowledge as part of the game.

After all the recent talk, I ended up buying.....holy cow there is a ton of free user made scenarios!  Looks like a lot of replayability with all those options.

I've played this game a lot and have yet to get through all of the scenarios. There is a TON of stuff. The player made stuff is also amazingly good - take a look at Copredy Bridge v2, for example, or any of the Nine Years War scenarios.

Thanks,

They can all be downloaded from within the game. Go to "Historical" and click on the globe icon with the down arrow on it at the top of the screen.

Do you have the game? Just use the download option in the Historical menu.
