Dude why was the seconds death so excess. I mean the show is gory yeah but that was a tad...sadistic

I did not enjoy it one bit. Too graphic, too sadistic, too violent and too real.

No need for it. They could've easily cut away - you got the gist of what was going on!

Oh absolutely - it certainly added to the "badass"ness of Negan - but I'm still pretty sure battering a head to a pulp of a fav character was enough.

I just don't like that kind of violence. It's a bit raw and a bit too real for me.

That's what I meant, not that it enhanced his badassness but that he could have stopped after a certain number of hits but carried on - the show wants you to hate him, I don't need leading by the nose but I think if they'd just shown Glenn getting hit, and Maggie screaming for example and then cutting away, you would never have had that feeling of menace and hatred

I'm certainly no director or scene editor but I think when everyone drove off and it showed the survivors just sat there, totally drained and exhausted having just witnessed it all, I think we were supposed to feel the same, drained and 'thank fk that's all over' and I don't think that would have happened without the disturbing scenes

I think it's the job of the actors to convey that...not the prop team. For me at least-we know the actors are working off the script. The director speaks to the scene and what he wants it to convey. By going over the line it's almost an insult to the actors--it's like they're saying--"you lack the ability so we're do it for you". And for some going over the line spoiled the intent- it offended instead- and angered others. Keep in mind also this is Public Television-and the show pushes the line--but if you abuse that privledge the Pendalem may swing back against you from the political powers to be in the FCC--which I'm sure will be flooded by complaints on the episisode.

At least we are now talking on the merits of the argument here---but for me a lot of that was totally too much. It didn't make me hate Negan-It made me hate those on the show that decided to this--to advertise it like they did- to glorify it like they did while at the same time making no effort in the writing to move a story arch or expand a character--which is exactly why my 86 year old mother watches it. For her-she hates the gore and zombies-but the Charactors  and Drama compells her to watch the show for that. She completely turned it off now.

I definitely "felt" for Negan as UCG says - I wanted Rick to end him.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure I could've got there without the real gore. I seriously considered not watching anymore. The content was just over the hill for me.

I'm guessing it has a lot to do with psychology too - the episode apart from hating negan didn't touch me at all, whereas the kid from 6, the son of ricks blond girlfriend wannabe who got eaten while they were dressed as zombies did give me pause for thought

When Robert De Niro did the remake of Cape Fear there was no need to show you in great detail the violence to sell you the character he played. His acting knocked it out of the park. It just doesn't sell me as an excuse. They got the wrong actor if they 'needed' to do that.
