There's apparently a pack living a long par-4 away from our house, but I never hear them; our neighbor across the street gets them in her backyard, and they've killed all her outdoor cats. The only time I've ever heard them, I was in a completely different area of town and much farther away from their territory. (Arguably that weird set of snowprints I posted a year or two ago came from a coyote, although it looked completely different and was basically the size of the front half of my foot. But if it was running, it might look like that. Maybe. Whatever it was, there were and still are little teeny tiny prints exactly the same in the concrete of our garage floor, about the size of a dime. They'd be more adorable if I knew what they were. ;) )

They helped me get my littlest niece inside one night when we were having a party at our house and she wanted to play tag outside after sundown for some bizarre reason. I said, "Okay, but keep an ear out for coyotes. They can outrun you, and might carry you off."

We may have to change the state emblem to an Indian girl watching a steam ship go by while a coyote is chewing on one of her legs.
