I bought Descent on a whim because it was 30% off at a Black Friday sale.  Tried it out solo with the app acting as overlord and really enjoyed it so I grabbed a bunch of the expansions the next day.  Sadly, they don't expand the content available via the app all that much but it's pretty cool nonetheless.

There are user-created rules for automating the keeper (baddie) player in the stock & expansion campaigns.

I hused one of Redjack's rulesets (iirc) and the deck of cards for it.  Haven't given it the full-length campaign run yet, to see how challenging it can be, but it's similar to many co-op games with an automated opponent.

Dammit Carl!

Missed the Squad sale by one day!!!  :pullhair:

Still bought it, mind you, but certainly not happy.

Put me down for $40...ugh.

I didn't get anything in the sale, but just realized tonight that I meant to buy some DLC's for CK2...so I'll be eyeballing the Xmas sale to pimp out my game a bit.

And I'm intrigued by this app for Descent y'all are talking about.  Must consult Google on this.

To add insult to injury, I just realized tonight that the free copies of Dirt 3 and Tropico 4 I got from Humblebundle were time-limited to claim.  Doggonit.  So not only did I not get any new games, I actually lost two.

Strangely, I bought nothing during any sale so far, which is very unlike me...doubt I will stay clean throughout, but showing some restraint for once.  Things I am considering include:

- War in the West
- (2) DLC For Waterloo
- Polaris Sector

WIW is the most likely purchase out of the bunch, even though I know it will be completely over my head:)

I don't know about you but most games by Gary Grigsby are completely over the heads of many of its purchasers or--to put it mildly--have a very high learning curve.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Didn't it start on the 24th last year?

Don't recall last year's start date, just saw December 22nd date as the date being mentioned for this year.  Kind of thinking it started before, but not sure.

Well maybe I'll get some things in the Christmas sales.

I was very restrained in the recent one - while I was sorely tempted to get CMANO and did a lot of reading and watching, all I ended up getting were two ancient Star Wars games for about EUR 8.

And now playing one of those (KOTOR) and also the free Neverwinter Nights Diamond from GOG. Very enjoyable.

I did it! I made it through the Steam Autumn sale without buying anything. Praise the Holy Hand Grenade!

Sounds like quitter talk to me.  What you think, boys?

Well, what ISN'T being told is how many games he already has and how few are left on his wishlist, eh? :D

Being in a Nappy mood recently (as well as an ACW), I decided to address those needs with the old Tiller Batteground series (Matrix, $9 ea).  I've had some of his WW2 Squad Battle stuff and it was "ok" but I *love* his Midway game, which is an excellent game if you want some very detailed WW2 PTO strategic level/carrier ops stuff.  I've always known that Tiller put a lot into the research of the OOB's and that the games were detailed but the clunky interface and horrible 1990's graphics put me off.  Well, decided to give it a shot anyways for $9 and man- I have stayed up all night playing a computer game in a LONG time!

Matrix upped the graphics a bit (I noticed Charlie Kibler in the credits, as well as your name Brant for the marketing, way to go!).  I did a little bit of modding to the bases (toned down the bright reds and bright blue and gave the Rebs a "butternut" colored base) and when playing, I think it looks just fine.

My other big gripe going way back about these Tiller games was that the 2D icons were the size of a Tic-Tac on your screen.  Well, posting around about these someone said "they aren't meant to be played in the 2D, use the 3D" and so I stuck with that and wow, this is a really cool series.  The Civil War game very much reminds me of the Regimental Sub-System/Civil War Brigade Series from The Gamers (boardgames for you PC doodz) and that is a super great thing.

I might have to start a thread (or join one if one exists) about "Have you ever re-addressed an old game that you had pushed aside long ago only to discover that it is a true gem?" - something like that.

My only PC-game damage so far:   Gary Grigsby's War in the West: Operation Torch

I'm hoping that some of the smaller scenarios will kick start me into learning more and playing the full game.

$10...  not bad.   However, I've gone way overboard on board games, so it's not like I'm getting through December unscathed.   Finding out how many boardgames could be played solo (without just playing both sides) was NOT good for my wallet this year.    :idiot2:
