Good news - win 5* luxury night at a London hotel

Bad news - GF decides to bring daughter

So I'll be dragging my ass round London wishing I was with my daughter instead of someone else's

Chloroform both.  Leave them at hotel.

Chloroform doesnt knock anybody out. Just leaves you with a sore throat. If you inject use ketamine, if you wanna go classic rag, use isoflourane.

This afternoon, Asid, Tuna, and I, teamed up as the French against some of Asid's other friends (I didn't recognize them, could be Grogs, too, but I'm not sure) on SOW:Waterloo.

Our task: take a fort. Their task: defend the fort.

They murdered us.

I have come to a related decision that 2-1/2 hours is not enough time to do even simple divisional operational map moves. Had I marched with Asid (Tuna was running a brigade under my command, but he was detached off on his own mission most of the time), we might have won. As it was, by the time Tuna and I arrived at the fort, Asid had been party wiped. His whole division, basically routed.

We were still strong enough to win, I think -- Asid had bloodied the Brits good, and we were fresh and outnumbered them substantially, so able to project power around the fort well. But...

(a) at some point my main artillery group de-synched from their AI captain. For the rest of the fight I could order him around but his arty just sat there. They shot at first, but once I ordered him to move up they limbered and then did nothing. (They did good for the time they were shooting, but I really needed them closer for support.)

(b) I made the mistake of trying to be picky about shuffling my two AI brigades in my backfield before the assault. Should have left them on their initial wings instead of ordering them to switch wings. The problem wasn't so much that this delayed our side of the assault (more than we were already delayed), but that one of my AI brigade commanders promptly went insane. The 3rd one maneuvered his regiments just fine: marched them up to assault the fort from cover. The 2nd got his 'mind' completely tangled and never again managed to maneuver his troops in any good order for the rest of the fight.

Tuna did fine... got his brigade overextended trying to protect his side of the fort assault, but he tied up almost the whole remaining British force (after Asid was done punching them), and by the time they drove him off (a cavalry charge actually killed his 'character' -- which I didn't know could happen, they seemed pretty invulnerable) he had whittled them down substantially. We might still have pulled it off, but my 2nd AI brigadier just couldn't get over his confusion.

I continue to be convinced that divisions are about as far as a human can be sort-of expected to command in this game; and that really humans need to run brigades, too. That said, to be fair, my AI brigadiers did fine last week. Also, I suspect it's possible for me to send orders to take over running a brigade directly, effectively cutting the AI general out of the loop until further notice. (Not quite the same as the "Take command" button, which just makes the underling general ignore his personality quirks as you give him orders.) If I can figure out how, then when I see the computer losing its way again I'll just treat the general like he took a concussion or something and start ordering his brigade around directly myself.

Sounds like AI problems. Is Norb the main programmer or was it the partner that he burned?

Another board game weekend for me. I'm going to Game On! in Issaquah, WA this weekend. Should be fun. I'll post some pics in the board game section.

Great tune JH. Dire Starits is one of my favourite bands.

Had the bi-monthly D&D pnp.  I had originally intended to have the party find the entrance to the old stream bed that will take them to Wave Echo Cave by accident, then ambush them halfway up by Glasstaff and his minions.  I was going to have Malac's Pride (the bad guys that they invited on the adventure totally on their own) betray them and help Glasstaff and the goblins round them up.  Then I realized I had a better idea.  I would ambush them in the open.

After killing the gnome, the adventurer's looted the bodies and went to sleep.  The next day it rained.  They met a patrol of Blanton's Riders on the plains.  Information was exchanged about where the party was going and did the Riders Captain, Smithson, know where Hammer Rock could be found.  He said he didn't, but watch out for Hobgoblins who had been spotted in the area.  The Captain told our adventurers about a run down mining camp where vice, corruption, and chaos ruled.  The party made the decision to make for the camp the next day.  At sunset of the same day, Frath Windriver spotted a speck flying at the edge of the departing rain clouds as the sun set.  It saw his regard and flew off, out of sight.  An uneventful night passed.

The next morning dawned bright and cool.  The morning went by without event, but at noon, the party came upon a group of Scorch Tail wargriders surrounding a smaller group of Bloody Hand goblins and their three bugbear leaders.  The Hands were protecting two carts, made in to cages by floor to ceiling iron bars.  The party agreed to hang back and see what transpired.  The wargriders surrounded the smaller group and commenced to worrying them.  Two wings of Scorch Tails moved on the group.  Malac's Pride took the left flank as a group, inflicting losses along the way.  Our heroes moved willy nilly towards the remaining mounted goblins trapping the defending monsters.

Right then, Glasstaff landed on the battlefield on the back of a peryton, a beast with the body of a bird of prey and the head of a stag.  He howled his triumph and crowed that the Spider would be, "Pleased to come to a reckoning finally!," as Malac's Pride stepped up behind the party and started to disarm them.  Both the Scorched Tails and the Bloody Hands joined in the capturing of our guys.  The wizard, Glasstaff, has won.

Mike,   Concerning the Star Wars mod for stellaris, do you use all of those sub mods it recommends? There's like 30 of them are they all compatible with each other?

a followup

i was able to play the SW mod and all the suggested mods yesterday for several hours without any hiccup
some mods were listed as not updated to the latest version of 1.41 but the user comments in the according Steam areas for each of those mods said they will still work anyway, and they did.

i felt overweight and nasty last day, so i decided to start my game as MikeGER the Hutt  ^-^  in the remote corner of the wonderful SW galaxy-map. My main problem was i was not able to squelch the uprising other separatists Hutt factions on all my given planets and two started a rebellion and so i got a Hutt Separatists Wars as a storyline for my game if it would be a movie

as a side note i might recommend to leave out that civilian traffic mod. (ISBS - Living Systems) It adds lots to the atmosphere but i got distracted by all the 'fleets' suddenly roaming around my station when i had to solve a crisis inside! my own home celestical system.

Had a great weekend wargaming. We played GDW's Third World War with all the expansions, Southern Front, Arctic Front, and Persian Front, with full diplo rules and nukes. Game started on Wednesday after noon, I subbed in on Friday morning and continued until Saturday night. We managed to get 7 full turns, of 8 completed. We stopped there from exhaustion and the fact the NATO was well on its way to winning.

Very tired and hung over today for my flight home. I'll post some pics this week.

Friday night jammed with some old band mates on acoustics. Saturday played some World of Warships, first Ranked battles of this season. Saturday afternoon Waterloo with Jason, Asid and people from his server.

Yesterday tried to do some FSX, but just got frustrated. I reinstalled everything when I rebuilt my PC, but I'm having tons of crashes with FSX steam. Just pisses one off with all the money sunk in on add ons, that it's a troubleshooting nightmare to get things going again. Wishing I didn't go the Steam version.

Finally gave up and had a blast doing multiple bombing runs with Pe2 in IL2 BoS. Screw FSX, IL2 is a blast!!!

I ended up playing the PTU build of Star Citizen 2.6.1. It snuck up on me and I wasn't expecting to have access so soon.  The game continues to wow. I am jumping out of my skin for 3.0.
