I've been reading RSR on my iPad.

I put RSR, HCCE, and H3 on my old laptop.  In two months, I will say goodbye to my desktop for who knows how long.  But those are three games which I always felt deserve some serious gaming attention; they also run beautifully on a laptop from 2004.

Your gaming ennui is all a matter of perspective.  One day someone is going to turn off the power switch, and it won't be to reboot.  (I'll leave you to work through the multi-layered meanings on your own.)

Even though I have two old paperback copies of Red Storm Rising laying about somewhere, I ran across a big sweet red hardback version in pristine condition at a thrift store a couple months ago.  Grabbed it for $2.50.  I didn't even need it.. just a softie for the old gal.

I always end up playing FSX, X-Plane, DCS A-10, ARMA 2 etc. 
But not DC: Case Blue. Such a pitty because it's a nice game.  :(

I think I prefer games with short 1 to 2-hour sessions as opposed a long campaign.
But I still keep buying these strategy games.

meh, i wouldn't worry about it.

Just try doing something else and see if the itch bites you. It always bites me. Just when I'm 3 seasons deep in that NCAA Dynasty on my PS3 that I've been playing for 3 weeks I realize I really want to push some counters.....and btw Case Blue is really fun so far. :)

I agree with the guys who say try something else for a time, like a week, and then when you come back start out with a different genre. It has always helped me that way.

Sometimes when I am in a funk I play to make an AAR.  Sometimes writing a story along with play the game brings it alive again.   Also playing some mulitplayer games whether it be FPS or a PBEM can breathe fresh life into a game.

I've been in a bit of an everything funk lately.  :-\

Guess it's time to catch up on some reading... or play something I've not messed with in awhile like a shooter (EW!) or World of Tanks perhaps.  >:(

I've been messing around with CMFI for the last couple of days.  Nothing serious.  Just checking out the new UI and units.  I've started to play the game turned based which has really opened up a new aspect to the game.  A little less on the quick clicking and certainly fun rewinding the action to see it played at different zoom levels and points of view.  I still haven't finished one complete battle however.

I've downloaded a PDF app on to my iPad, so I'll plan on reading a few manuals CMFI, DC Case White and re-reading Crown of Glory Emperor's Edition.

It's a good place to be for me right now.  I've just been taking it easy and slowly easing myself back into strategy gaming.

Glad to hear it, Bison.  Sounds like you're on the right track again.  Just take it easy, and don't try to force anything.  :)

I'm on the downside of a strategy gaming funk.  I've got Falklands, CoH and DC: Case Blue in the cue, but I just cannot find the motivation to play.  Disappointing really as I enjoy a good evening of counter pushing and pretending that I've cleverly thought out my plan as I execute it on the game map.

We've had similar discussions here and elsewhere over the years.  So this is not something new under the sun.  Just disappointment I guess that I cannot get into a strategy game and enjoy it.

Perhaps I just need the cool weather of fall and a cup of hot tea to change my mindset.

I have a bout of this once or twice a year and it may last 1-3 months. Partially i think it's that we've seen it all or maybe that we yearn for something else.
