Agreed. I don't want them to keep producing dreck, but hopefully it's not beyond salvaging the series.

Given how suuuuuper-meta the books get toward the end, the film may end up being canonical discarded canon.  ::)

(Totally an Epileptic Trees level guess of mine, but entirely possible if the producers wanted to pull a do-over.)

Early indications on the box office are pretty bad.   Dark Tower made only $100,000 more on its Thursday premier take than Valerian did.   Valerian's 1st weekend take ended up being an abysmal $17 million.

The film has hit fans so wrongly, that either a fan theory or maybe an official explanation (I'm not sure which yet) has risen on the internet, to the effect that this film is a sequel to the books.

That's technically possible! -- but would necessarily require the presence of an item that I haven't yet heard Roland possessing in the movie. It might turn out that a prequel to the books is the better Ascended Fandom theory.

ITEM CONFIRMED!! -- this means the film is a sequel to the books, and therefore just about any plot compression, shifting, alteration, etc., is justified. (Aside from generating film-only plotholes.)
