It's been a surprisingly mild August so far -- highs have been mostly in the 70's, lower 80's at worst.  I've been able to wear my jeans (as opposed to shorts) for the last four days now, which has been a nice change.  The only downside (if you can call it that) is that it's rained practically every other day this summer, but I'm not complaining if it means we get cooler temperatures in exchange.

No one wants a white Halloween. In 2011 we got a foot of snow here on Halloween and with some leaves on some of the trees, it looked like a WWI battlefield. We didn't have power for two weeks. Everyone remembers superstorm Sandy and tropical storm Irene, but almost no one remembers the white Halloween. That storm really fucked us up.

All that said it's going to be in the 40s here tonight (and it was last night) and looks like we have cool weather for the next 7-10 days. Fall arrived early maybe? I fear for the Commander's sanity.

I was on my bicycle in the Virginia countryside at 0730 this morning.  Almost felt chilly at the start, even though it's still August.  It was a nice day for a ride, so I'm not complaining.
