Quote from: Sir Slash on September 07, 2017, 06:45:57 PMWhat's a good liquor to not-give-a-shit-about-anything drink through a hurricane? I'd like one that drowns out family, kids, bad news, and "Did I ever tell you the story" type noise.

Percocet?
Just curious ... Isn't that a paracetamol painkiller combo? Great cure for headaches then! Can you get it in liquid form?

I know there is Oramorph too if you really want to avoid being conscious of anything.
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

Foul Temptress! (Mirth replying to Gus) ;)

On a good day, our legislature has the prestige of a drunk urinating on a wall at 4am and getting most of it on his shoe. On a good day  ::) Steelgrave

Oh dear. I knew it was reaaallly late and well past my bedtime, being 0340h local time. I'm taking things too literally again... :buck2:  :hide: I'd better get off to bed.

Unless things change, Auburn will get hit with the torrential rain belt.

And they keep changing.  The eye keeps shifting west.  If this continues this could be one of those bastards that crosses Florida, hits the gulf, then hits Alabama and moves to Auburn.  We are now in the "deluge from hell" rain map.

Sir Slash

Yes. I think Irma's gone from being a cute little East Coast tease to a fat bitch that kicks in your front door and then sits down on your face. Sunday's looking like a Black Day for Fla.
"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

our local weather guy here is pretty sure Alabama is fooked and it's not going to bother us much.

José on the other hand...

I ran this past my good friend the retired USAF weather guy for a reality check, and his comments below

QuoteAs Redd Fox said, "This is the big one Elizabeth!" Comparison is about right on size. Weathermen jokes aside, forecast tracks for hurricanes are pretty good inside 48 hours, so whatever we see tomorrow morning is pretty much it for FLA. Irma may not be Cat5 strength at landfall (TBD), but the sheer size is gonna ensure a wide swath of devastation. Unfortunately.

I was reading the discussion on Irma at Weather Underground this morning and it is pretty grim.  As much as I enjoy watching hurricanes from ground zero, I think Florida is going to be a pretty miserable place to be for the next few weeks.  Perhaps the best case at this point is if Irma tracks along the central spine of Florida and spares the heavily populated coasts from the worst winds.  But, like your AF buddy said, the shear size and extent of the wind field means that the damage is likely to be heavy and very widespread, which will obviously complicate recovery.

Forecast for Boca Raton, 9am Sunday.  100% chance of rain, winds 130mph from the SSE, 6.5 inches rain (on top of 6.5 inches of rain Saturday).

Looks like onset of hurricane force winds will be about 8pm Saturday lasting through 8pm Sunday.

Good news, the high will be 85.  The bad news is you probably won't have a/c.

Dude.   :o

This is all based on the current hurricane track of course, so is subject to +/- depending on track.

Auburn, AL.  Peak winds North at 24 mph at 4pm Monday, 1.5 inches of rain.

it looks like the west coast of Florida is going to get it worse then the east now.
