Well it would need to simulate height. Z axis would be good. Perhaps this is going to be using the BSG engine. Could see that being adapted to do this.

Altitude is such a key part of the tabletop game. It will need to be represented somehow in the computer version.

No. It has altitude levels that you can climb/dive within. It's a huge part of the game play actually.

For the table top game, a lot of times you'll see people using telescoping stands to represent what altitude a plane is at.
