I refuse to play anything with a time limit on it, which is why I have never actually done anything with my 11 year old copy of the 'Alexander' expansion to RTW. Basically, I want to wander around and conquer at my own pace and fight with phalanx, and could not give a damn about doing anything within a given time frame.
To fix this the time limit has to be changed and the death condition of the game ending with Alexander's death has to be removed.
Is there a mod for this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. You just edit the text files in \Activision\Rome - Total War\alexander\data\world\maps\campaign\Alexander
descr_win_conditions must have alexander references removed, and descr_strat must have the end date increased. If you want it to take effect, you must start a new game.

Thanks Cheimison. I did wonder about that myself.
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

It's kind of silly to investigate whether or not a Clinton is lying. That's sort of like investigating why the sky is blue. Banzai_Cat

You can also change the timescale to 0.25 which gives 4 turns per year (2summer, 2 winter), and the playable factions by moving the non playable into playable in Desc_Strat. That makes the game a lot more fun alleviating the time pressure.

I ended up playing the core game as the Seleucids, anyway! lol.

Seleucids are sexy.
If you can make it past the early game 'attacked by everyone from every direction' they are also EASILY the best civilization, once you put down Parthia and your rebels you only have one real front (albiet a long one), huge amounts of money and manpower, the ability to construct enormous cities with the best possible buildings, and not only the best troops of any given type but the best variety of troop types, AND the ability to get top rate mercenaries due to your geographic position (Hoplites, Sarmatian Heavy Cavalry, Cretan Archers, etc.).
Mid-late game Seleucids will have the absolute best cities and best armies and the money to buy the best buildings for maximizing those cities and also support the largest army composed entirely of the best troop types in every category from the entire world.

I know you're playing core, however I can really recommend Total War: Total Realism or Europa Barbarorum if you want the extra chrome.
