FWIW, I enjoy Rome II way more than Attila.  I mostly own Attila for the Age of Charlegagne campaign pack (which is admittedly quite a lot of fun).

Yeah the only thing I dont like about attilla is that I've never been a fan of playing barbarians, I much prefer to play as organized nationstates.

When I did play it at my partners house, I always beelined to Athens

I've never been a fan of playing a "barbarian" faction either.  Give me walled cities and legal codes any day! 

Athens is fun, but it's a tough faction to play as.  That even applies to them in Rome II's Wrath of Sparta DLC, despite Athens being the single most powerful faction in that campaign:  Since the other three playable factions (Sparta, Corinth, & Thebes) are all friendly with each other and gunning for you, Athens is still in a tough spot.

I love playing as barbarians but I always win campaign in Rome, Attila, etc., as more organized nation states. My best campaign ever in Attila was playing as Aksum. So many great units, interesting factions to play and an fascinating area of the world.

I'm a sucker for the eastern empires and Successor States.  Pontus is probably my favorite, but Egypt and Parthia are fun too. 

I really need to take Carthage out for another spin.  I've never done particularly well with them, but they always fascinate me (both from a cultural standpoint, plus their starting strategic position).

All these new games, and I am getting ready to fire up an old favorite...Starters Orders 6. If you like horse racing, and sims in general, this is a TERRIFIC game. I have had all variants since SO 2.

Is Car Mechanic 2018 different enough from 2015 to make it worth while?

I've watched a few Let's Play vids to see, and it looks like it is. I'm hoping it's more rags-to-riches in its approach as opposed to 2015 where you start with a gigantic garage. It looks a little more down-to-earth. It'll take some getting used to the GUI which has changed a bit. As soon as people around here let me have time to try it out I'll definitely post more.
