The "Holy %$%# It's Cold Out There" Winter 2017 Thread

16F in West Tennessee yesterday morning, wind chill 1F. Same this morning basically.

Naturally I'm fighting (the long-ongoing start of?) an? ear-infection. And so had to get out to the doctor yesterday to decide they were too full for me to camp out in either the giant petrie dish or the car waiting. Back home to sleep (or rather to the office for end-of-month/quarter/year work, though fortunately not a lot for me), and back to the doc in ear-drill weather this morning.

Not even any snow to be pretty with it. Though West TN did get a few inches on Christmas morning. 2 hours south of here!  :o Even the niece fighting pseudo-flu wanted to ride down to see it, and she didn't feel like doing much of anything Christmas Day. (We didn't. It'll snow here eventually, most likely next week.)


In good news, the niece-parents gave the nieces Ticket to Ride, the German edition -- for helping teach the family some geography when they might possibly go on vacation there next autumn! Bro's an ex-wargamer, so he knows the geography anyway, and Ishy has actually been there recently, so this is for the kids. Consequently, the adults spent Christmas day playing against each other while saying the kids could play later.  O0

In my heart I see this as progress toward Bro being able to get back into wargames finally someday (as the kids finally grow older). Baby steps.  :dreamer:

Meanwhile I got the girls Agricola: Family Edition (they kind of know how to play Stone Age already on my iphone, and this is a simple introduction to a more complex game); Herd Your Horses (a sort of squad management game on a point-to-point map, but with y'know horses); a medieval castle and village building kit (not sure the castle is historical but I've got a couple of those, too, for later if this goes well, including the Krak de Chevalier); and the piece de resistance Courtier which they instantly recognized as Love Letter the More Super Complicated Edition.
