I've been wanting to pick up Spintires/Muddy Trucks for a while.

Fanatical is offering SPINTIRES for $3.74 U.S.

Steam is knocking off 20% on Spintires: MudRunner, bringing the cost down to $23.99 U.S.

Those are the closest I could find to "Spintires/Muddy Trucks."

I just picked up HOI4...what do I need to know before I dig in? I am considering Quill18's youtube videos as a first step.

3.5 hours of videos!  I'd rather pull my teeth out with a pliers.  I don't have patience for videos as I read much faster.  I also just got HOI4.  I found there strategy guide useful.  That and playing around with the interface and seeing what happens.  Looks like planning your focii is a major factor is success.  I also get the feeling that you don't have time to research everything you want.

Rise of Flight is balls difficult (especially in an early plane like the Eindecker), and trying to get a single-player campaign going is almost as difficult.

I realize that could only be helpful in a negative way, but...  :-\ RoF about counts as the elite course in WW1 flight. Arguably tougher than reality due to necessary feedback limitations (though without the risk of injury or death, so less tough in that way I guess. ;) )

Quite easy to jump into, fly around, and do well compared to sims featuring more modern aircraft.  There's hardly anything you need to worry about other than pointing your shooty things towards the enemy, not stalling, and not going so fast that bits fall off.  No prop pitch, no fuel mixture, superchargers, trim, radar, or any of that stuff to worry about.  Also, the game supports force feedback joysticks so you can get the sensory inputs letting you know when you're going to slow and in danger of stalling or too fast and in danger of ripping a wing off.

Jump into: yes easy.

Fly around: in a straight line with slightly rising of flight  ;) , sure.

Pointing your shooty things toward the enemy = death.

Not stalling: hard during any but the gentlest maneuver.

Pointing your shooting things toward the enemy without stalling = death.

Not going so fast that the bits fall off = death.

Force feedback joysticks are quite necessary, but I don't recall mine giving me enough alert. But it might have been turned off; I've slept several hundred times since then.

Admittedly, this is my eindecker experience, so no doubt later airframes are easier about all that than a wing-warper.

Fuel-mixture: technically needed on the eindecker, along with radiator management, but one can play without them, too. Naturally other portions are missing, of course. I did qualify this as being difficult for World War One flight, not as being difficult compared to B-2 flight.  ::)


I should add that the flight model can be turned down a lot, maybe to the point where it's a fancy looking Red Baron 1 game. I jumped in at the very deep end, just because real pilots would have to do that.

Just jumped into a quick mission at full real and took an Eindekker up against 4 veteran DH2s (head-on, 1000m alt, clear, light winds and turbulence).  Haven't touched the game in over a year but I was able to knock down 3 and damage the 4th before running out of ammo.  I'm no great pilot (my online stats will loudly attest) so if I can do it, anyone can.  Just don't be ham-fisted on the stick!

I got Astroneer (not much fun), the Muddy trucks B revision for what used to be Spintires (interesting) and the Mirage 2000C for DCS.  Seems to work well once you turn the radar thing on.

And now: DC: Barbarosa.  Kind of cool.  But who are you in this game?  Not Stalin since you are trying to keep him from getting too paranoid (or maybe you are Stalin's ahistorical "good side"?).  So far I've unpurged the army.  Threatened the Finns as nicely as I could and had a little heart-to-heart with the Japanese and so on.  Now I have to win big cuz I already spent all my victory points just being a nice guy.

Bought 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' for my partner and 'The Flame in the Flood' and that's one tough survival game to beat.

...and now Vermintide sits in the library - just the base game and no DLC as I like to ease my way into those things.

Helped that I started reading some of my old Warhammer Fantasy related books to put me in the mood to remember this game.  Can't wait to splatter some Skaven.
