That was pretty much the mindset back in the dawn of computer gaming...my grandfather said the exact same thing after he bought me a TRS-80 model III and later, a Commodore PC with a monochrome VGA monitor. "Fifteen hundred dollars and you just use it to play games?"

"...uh, well, no grand-dad, you see, I can use it for school work, too...typing papers and...such..."

Those were the days when you had to hook and plug and switch-on about half-a-dozen things to make the damn things to run. Good Times!

Was that TRS-80 a 'model III' or a 'Color Computer III'? If the latter, you had what was the last of a line of underdog computers that actually had more horsepower than a Commodore 64.
Tandy/Radio Shack was at a crossroads at the time, trying to decide if they were going to keep pushing on with their own unique line of computers (the TRS-80 Color line) or knuckle under and start making PC clones (the Tandy 1000). They ended up choosing assimilation, which is why so many of your early DOS game boxes say 'DOS/Tandy1000' on the lower left cover.

That I did. Radioshack went all in with the Tandy 1000 line and pretty much both did in IBM's PCjr while still cracking open the home computer market for IBM PC compatibles. As a result Amiga died and Apple spent a decade stumbling around in the Wilderness.
