My TrackIR met with calamity...so needs to be replaced.

Tobii Eye Tracker for gaming came up during my search. Apparently also does head tracking as well as....eye tracking.

Here is Amazon Link

One user review said it is "head tracking without the silly hat."

Looks interesting, and seems to have quite a bit of game support? DCS, Arma, Far Cry V, Ghost Recon, IL-2, 7 Days to Die...etc.

List of games at:  https://tobiigaming.com/games/

The cost of the Tobii Eye Tracker is similar to TrackIR...$149 vs. $143.

Anyone using this? If so, how does it compare to TrackIR? How does it operate with games that don't officially support it?

I suspect that this may ultimately prove to be the superior technology when more games adapt to it.

I became aware of it because Kingdom Come: Deliverance uses it (though it doesn't really need it).

I don't own it but would love to hear from someone who has tried it.

Not having to wear a hat is a big plus, but I wonder if wearing glasses will interfere with the way it works.

If this gets more traction, TrackIR's in for some trouble.

TrackIR needs to buy them.

I agree.  Or at least TrackIR needs to up their technology.

The basic TrackIR has not changed much since it was introduced in 2002.

But I do have to hand it to them, TrackIR has had great "legs" for a piece of PC technology.

Some of the guys were talking about it on an Il-2 server.  They say it has problems tracking if you wear glasses, And it also has problems with accuracy.  It often picks a point close to where you're looking but not exactly and this causes issues.

Plus if it tracks your eye movement I don't know how you would be able to keep looking at a target while scanning your instruments at the same time?
With TIR you move your head and keep your eyes 'free' to focus on whatever it is you need to look at. While it takes a bit of getting used to the end result is pretty awesome and intuitive after a while. The motto dont fix what aint broken applies here. While TIR hasnt seen a marked upgrade in years now I am not sure its needed either.

I don't see this eye tracker being very useful in the combat flightsim world which -as I see it- is the largest amount of users with TIR-like appliances.
I don't think there is critical mass for Tobi. Just my two cents though.

In this video ObsideanAnt uses the eye & head tracking with the Tobii 4C.

It looks it is working as intended.

I guess you can turn off eye tracking and just use head tracking.

I don't know if you HAVE to place the tracker below your monitor? If so that's very inconvenient of you use any other peripherals on your desk like button boxes.

Secondly, the fact that aparently there is no option (yet?) to set sensitivity for seperate axis is another deal breaker.

The videos are compelling...thanks for posting.  In the top one, the guy is wearing glasses.

If it was much cheaper than TIR, then I'd think about it.  As Yskonyn says, there's nothing really wrong with TIR (for flightsimming at least), so I wouldn't change to something unproven at the moment.

I have the Tobii, was given to me by the company.

Overall, it worked quite well, and felt natural once properly calibrated. I think it works best when playing stuff like ARMA or Flight Sims, but it also has some neat tools for Windows (teleport cursor to where you are looking).

A couple of problems I had were

- It has to be mounted on your monitor and is hard to remove without damaging it
- The red dots were flickering and it tired my eyes/was annoying
- It only works on one monitor, so is weird with a multi-monitor setup.

Edit: This was about 1.5 years ago, the above might have changed since.
