Grim.Reaper

Appears to be described as a Fallout-like RPG game by Obsidian.  Looking at the reviews and other chatter, appears to be getting favorable remarks if you like something a little lighter and funny.

I know most folks won't give it a chance since it is an Epic game (won't hit steam for a year, but I do believe it is available on Windows store too), but if you do I recommend ordering from Greenman Gaming using TOW16 code and you get 16% off, taking price to roughly $50 usd.  Just remember, you'll get an Epic key and have to redeem at the Epic store.  Although I own a ton of FREE content from Epic, this was my first actual purchase (first game interested enough) and so far no issues.  The download is about 39GB.

The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Key Features

The player-driven story RPG: In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops; but your character build, companion stories, and end game scenarios.

You can be flawed, in a good way: New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. While playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experience to find what you aren't particularly good at. Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon.

Lead your companions: During your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It's up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to your own ends.

Explore the corporate colony: Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything... except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony's two planets didn't exactly go according to plan. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.

JudgeDredd

Angry Joe mentioned this when he was ranting about Bethesda wanting $100 from players to buy into a subscription (each year). He said Go and get The Outer Worlds by the people who created Fallout Las Vegas instead of buying into the buggy mess that's Fallout 76 - and without paying a yearly $100 subscription.

I'm interested. And thanks for the code.

I pondered joining Epic just for this title and then came back to my senses. I can wait for its Steam release. In the meantime, during my current games revisiting phase, I am going to try out Wasteland 2 again.

Very curious to hear some Grogpinions on this one.  Sounds very cool but all the post processing effects in the trailers/screenshots are enough to make my eyes bleed when I haven't even played the game yet...
I was waiting for a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

I got (bought it from GreenManGaming with a discount).

It's interesting and fun at times but gameplay is nothing special and so far I'm not that immersed in the setting.

Some of the good things about it are how the game evokes the feeling of the Firefly/Serenity show/movie, you flying around on an old (non-FTL) spaceship with a ragtag crew that will come to consist of an engineer, a medic and even a priest (a Vicar), all the while often performing morally dubious actions and illegal activities.

However the game's maps generally feel like you're playing Fallout 3/NV/4 . Every planet you visit has Marauders and Monsters (always the same variety regardless of planet) crowded everywhere just outside the city walls (yeah, cities seem to have walls in the far future), and plenty of ruins, abandoned buildings and crashed ships litter pretty much every region.
After a while it just begins to feel utterly silly and too much like a reskin of a new Bethesda Fallout game.
