Maybe they just mean to reassure beta players that they don't need to buy Eagles to continue playing if the player doesn't mind the grind.

I was finally able to play last night after spending almost 30 minutes repeatedly trying to map out my joystick for just the easy mode option. I got frustrated because the options almost always seam to end up backwards no matter what direction I push the stick during setup. It's almost like they don't want anyone using flight controls. I gave up and went with mouse instead but I can't wrap my head around it, especially since I have a very small mousepad and minimal space next to my keyboard. Also, my wrist and forearm were not liking an hour of mouseflying at all. I've gotta get that stick worked out. BTW, how long does it take to build up enuf xp to graduate from the weenie rides?

You can hit level 2 in a specific nation without much fuss.  That will give you a better fighter and some kind of bomber to buy.  Fill up your five crew slots with all those new ones you can (will have to spend extra on the fifth crew slot for one - you only start with two). 

I'm at Level 3 on the US planes.  And this is where it's reeeeeally begun dragging.  I've been flying these two Brewster Buffalos for many missions and the xp bar is just barely inching towards Level 4.  :'(  And Level 4 is when you first start getting the good stuff.   I fear that premium will be a requisite if you actually want to make much progress after Level 3.   I dunno how many of you guys who've been in beta have tried levelling from zero in a nation, since the XP changes.. but perhaps it gets a bit smoother once you get up there and start earning more per match?  And, yes,  I'm racking up extra points for kills & bombing & such.

I've probably spoken too much about details.   Hopefully get the beta forum thing done now that I PM'd a mod.

Discovered a potential exploit. Once you run out of fuel due to fuel leak, the engine dies. No problem, just restart and and you're good to go. :)

I think that was intentional, like the ammo reloads.  I'm usually so shot up by that point that I just kamikaze into somebody and grab the next crate out of the hangar.

Some people have stated that there will be no progression wipe at official release, now that we are in "Global Beta".  No guarantees, supposedly, however. 

I thought it odd that they were offering the paid services for actual cash right now but evidentally we're in a bit of a (restricted) early release stage. *shrug*


Anyway.. someone send me lots of Nation Level XP so I can pick up my P-40 and SBD.  :P

Finally made Level 4 on the American side.  Got the P-40E and SBD.  :D

I've seen people complaining about cannon not being powerful enough, but I've been regularly 1-shotted, in my lowbie planes, by aircraft with 20mm cannon on them.  Notably Spitfires, because they're currently the 800lb gorilla and I see them fairly often.

The thing with these games, like WoT, is that the developers still have to place artificial values on damage capabilities and create artificial damage models.  And such things lead to problems.   There's a big difference between the damage models of these current two warplane games.  That and the maps being the most notable differences.

One thing I'm a bit concerned about in WT:  the developers are Russian.  The Wargaming.net guys running WOT have been an exception in support, for Russian developers, in my experience.  Without going into details, let's just say I'm a bit wary of how things are run when it comes to such a situation, these days.

Download took forever but I've played a few missions.  I really like the new map.  Lots of targets for bombing.   Racked up 25 kills with my Welly before a Yak severed my elevator cables.

I've asked for a new wave of Beta keys, along with others, because the EU servers are very low population.  But thus far I've not seen any new ones other than perhaps yet more newbs on the Russian servers.  ::)

I hope they don't have the same tendencies of many other Russian devs in that the rest of the world is just an afterthought.  They need to spread the word around because they got a real winner on their hands but there's not much buzz about it in the anglo-'net.  Having to pass on beta feedback through only one English-speaking part-time dev isn't very efficient either so it feels pretty disconnected for a beta, to me.  Despite all that - the game and the engine is pretty awesome.   But they're gonna need more testers to push the EU server limits sometime.

I read the post mentioning that the "Russian server is now in Open Beta". That was a bit of an odd way to say it since the EU server runs on the exact same version as the Russian server, and you can choose to join the next available game on either one.  :lol:  A bit confusing but perhaps it's just the usual Russian devs not giving much thought to the rest of the world.  :P

Anyway.. sounds like you can sign up & get flying now. There will be no wipe at the end of Open Beta so don't worry about having to start from zero again. You can also purchase premium time & all that shiny stuff, if you want. I've not purchased anything yet and have had a good time.  But I plan on doing so before long.  :)

I think you should be able to sign up and get the d/l going by clicking the "Test Now" banner at the top.

Tips after install: IIRC, there is probably a torrent for the beta you can download somewhere. It was much much faster that way when I downloaded the bulk of the game the first time. Also!! After you click "Join Game" from your hangar, click the "Server" button at the very top of the next screen and choose 'Both' instead of just the EU server. You'll get into games a helluva lot faster as I don't think many are using the EU server yet.
