War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition...what's stopping you?

One of Tanaka's posts in another thread got me checking out the WitP:AE forum over at Matrixgames.  It seems that WitP:AE is getting a major update.  From what I gathered in the thread, the idea is to incorporate much of the best community work and mods from over the years into the game as standard choices.  JWilkerson posted the following:

To clarify the scope of the proposed new release for AE. This is what we're looking at:

1 - New/updated scenarios

2 - New/updated map

3 - Updated manual

4 - A few bug fixes (no enhancements)

That said, we welcome all input and will consider all suggestions. But this is NOT planned as a major redo of AE. This effort is primarily to update the game as sold, because that hasn't really happened in many years.

For things like updated scenarios, I think they're planning to both incorporate some of the new, smaller scenarios that have been created along with new AI scripts that another user has created. 

It's pretty exciting stuff to see this old game getting renewed love.  It's on sale for a mere $16 on the Matrix site right now although you'll have to do some work to get it to work properly at modern resolutions and other issues with Win10.  You can make it work with some command line tweaks, it's not hard, but it might now work with a straight-stick install out of the box.

Tanaka has more info on this than I do so maybe he can chime in and summarize the upcoming changes.  I don't spend time on the Matrix forums in general.

Another post my AndyMac, who creates scenarios and AI scripts, indicated these are the "new/updated" scenarios being worked on:

I am doing the scenarios so as you would expect I will be polishing the 24 that are more or less done above based on my previous work posted to the forum - its unlikely the abandoned ones will make the cut as its too much work for me to do and get the rest ready



So the list above is the list I am working on for now if anyone has a scenario they have finished especially more small map scenarios happy to look at them I have 24 more or less done just needing polishing and testing

You did a great job pretty much covering it. No better time to get this game $16 is a steal and the last major update coming! This is the best computer game ever made in my opinion and probably the most historically accurate. It was made by a team of experts in every field that will probably never come together again. It blows away WITW and WITE1/2 in all naval and air aspects. There are plane and ship battle animations for every unit. Not just abstract numbers like WITW and WITE. Now if WITPAE had the ground game functions of those two it would be unbelievable.

That's the last update I see on their page.  I get the impression there's a beta update somewhere but I'm not sure if that's the 2015 update or if there's another one lurking.

Yes the last major patch done was still in Beta (located in the support forum) so they are going to basically do a remaster and bundle in a lot of the improvements that have been done over the years and fix the last remaining bugs and finalize the Beta into one last official patch...

Having (not necessarily playing) this game should be a requirement of membership at Grogheads.
