Greetings Grogheaded Wargamers,

There are so many XCOM threads currently going on that I didn't know where to post my videos, so I figured I'd add to the pile.

Overall, when comparing the new XCOM to the old X-Coms, I was pretty disappointed.

As an X-Com veteran who's been waiting 15 years for this game, this is my short and sweet:

Overall, the game is good. If you don't compare it to the originals, it's amazing. If you're an older gamer, however, and think that the originals were/are the best games ever made, then you're anxiously awaiting modding tools so that we, the players, can "fix" the game.

When I first heard about the new X-Com, I decided then and there that I was going to do a full "Let's Play" series on it and share my first playthrough on my youtube channel. Well today I finished that playthrough. I play on Classic difficulty.

I am constantly learning as I play, but from what I can tell from a lot of posts, I seem to do better overall than most, aside from almost outright losing the game in the first 2 months because I have terrible satellite coverage. The tutorial bugged out on me and I didn't understand the importance of getting satellites up at the beginning. I play pretty conservatively and tactically, and try to not let myself get in to bad situations.

I very rarely use run and gun to flank my enemies, because I learned early on that doing so often just "reveals" another pack of enemies and it ends in me getting flanked instead.

Thanks for posting. I just got through a tough mission that saw me lose two troopers and another wounded. I'm going to take a break tonight and come back for more tomorrow.

Anybody else finding this game intense enough that you need to take breaks after a mission or two?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Yea, I do. I was listening to this weeks Three Moves Ahead podcast and one of them mentioned the same thing. Its gets really intense when you've had a mission where the Sh*t hits the fan, and the seems to happen every other mission. I've had missions were my squad gets ambushed, and I've actually saved the game, and went and did something else for awhile, I thought about how best to save them. I'm not playing iron man, but I've been trying to not reload games, except when the interface glitches and I run a squaddie out into the open with no cover.

Do we really need 3-4 threads on X-Com? Wouldn't it be easier to track if they were merged?
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic
