I do wonder if any human has ever actually completed one of the grand campaigns.

Ladies and gentleman, if the price was the main issue for you, rejoice! WitP:AE, friendly price edition O0

-80%, no less!  :D

Wow!!!  If you are a computer strategist and have interest in the Pacific War, this is a great deal!!!

Having (not necessarily playing) this game should be a requirement of membership at Grogheads.  :crazy2:

...and I even had the original manual printed up at Staples with comb binding.  :bd:

The sheer length and scope of the game turns a PBEM campaign game into a lifestyle choice.

To make it easier on mere mortals...I am wondering if a Grogheads WitP PBEM relay would work.

The basic idea is that two or more players start a game off (you could in theory split commands...having two Japanese players for example. One taking China and the other the Pacific).

When one of them gets tired, or real life intervenes and they can't continue, they pass their side off to the next player on the waiting roster. Players would constantly be rotating.

Would use a Grogheads forum to regulate. Players could be added or dropped from the roster whenever real life allows.

Players could post ops logs every game week or so, to keep the waiting roster informed.

Would probably have to use three day turns...to keep the game moving.

A version of this method is being done for WitE via Discord, and seems to be successful.

Anyway, just a thought... :dreamer:

If you have enough takers, I'll create a subforum in the AAR forum and I thank you for being so kind to volunteer to mod it.

I have the boxed edition with hardcopy manual.  Do I get extra credit?   :DD

Sir Slash

Didn't we have two members here do a campaign one-on-one a few years back? I remember reading the alternating AAR's and was fascinated by the two strategies used. As I recall, it was jointly called by both participants about 1/3 of the way through? Maybe it wasn't here. It was a ways back.

You mean the one discussed earlier in the thread?

Sir Slash

That is the very one. Thanks Tanaka. Great match BTW.

I am certainly willing to take on the role of protecting the northern Rim of Fire, from Alaska thru the Aleutians! (Since that has the least forces and despite owning every iteration of WitP I remain an absolute newb at it. ;) )

I suppose a multiplayer team game would involve, on each side, a team leader who would manage the economic side and give general guidance over plans and development for operations in areas. Then under him would be x-players who each have responsibility for branches of the OOB tree(s) (land/air and naval) in general areas: each commander could in principle send his units anywhere on the map while still under his command but this would become quickly unwieldy, so the commanders would operate with some mutually supporting overlap in various assigned areas, transferring forces (and maybe local resources) to and from his allies' command (with the leader reserving the right to also make such assignments.)

When I've seen it done it's by area/zone - you don't want to over complicate things and certainly don't split it into air sea ground - the sea guy will have a heart attack

I played a 2 x 2 and it was very manageable - he was everything east of the Philippines I was everything west

There is no need to get involved with the US economy side of things that bay the Japanese industrial output
