Grim.Reaper

July 25th release date...not sure yet on whether I'll pickup as seems limited in single player content.

Old post and all. Don't buy it.

Any specific reason you would want to give?  I have purely stayed away since didn't appear to have a lot of single player content which I primarily play.

Alternate question: so, is this ArmA's foray into providing a replacement/competition for the position more recently staked out by Post Scriptum and Hell Let Loose (both of which are falling apart now, according to many players)?
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.
RobO Q Campaign Generator -- archived classic CMBB/CMAK tool!

I don't think so. Arma has always had a strong WWII modding element, some of which ended up being sold commercially. I believe it was called Iron Front.

Hell Let Loose is one I am banking on staying around for a while. They have new owners that gamified it a bit but the servers are still very well filled and I can always find a game. Add to that a patch today reversed a lot of the more unpopular changes.

Post Scriptum - Really sad that the performance problems never got resolved with this. I think that is what killed it. It hard to compete when the competitor both looks better and is less realistic. But walking simulator with low frame rates was not how to give yourself a chance post scriptum.

ARMA - LArge maps with scope for real world sized operations, bad physics, older graphics look and very simple vehicles. Back in the day it was good but I have not touched the series in ages.

Having spent the greater part of last week and a lot of this past weekend on ARMA III and it's mods I came to a realization.

Mods I played with include several WW2 mods as well as Killah Potatoes Liberation (a capture the island scenario).

I've played (and own) Hell Let Loose but not Post Scriptum.

My conclusion and observation is as follows:

Nothing is or ever will be better at portraying WW2 combat as the mods in ARMA III.  If you want as close to possible as real world modeling of infantry combat you will not find it anywhere else. Period (my humble opinion and I'm sticking to it criticism be damned)

Hell Let Loose started out as a fairly decent simulation of infantry combat in WW2 but still being accessible to the average joe just looking for a fight.  Lost interest in it after the first 4 months as, for me anyway, it does not have that 'hook' that keeps you coming back for more.

What someone needs to do is create a game as realistic as ARMA but does not require a P.H.D. to play.  Meaning having a simple user friendly interface in order to perform the real world gameplay mechanics and to load mods without a convoluted confusing process.

Sorry for the latency. Short and sweet, its a mess, IMHO. It's a mess of assets, its a mess of gear, its a mess vehicles, its just a mess.

I'm a WWII aficionado at the ripe old age of 40, while bitching and complaining, waving my invisible cane at random CoD games like I'm a 70YO disgruntled Soviet factory worker. I have a library spanning three walls filling floor to ceiling oak book cases with nothing but World War II (primarily the EF) tomes. Now, you might say I'm overtly critical of a CLDC like this given my education level of the conflict, and you'd probably be right.

However, yes there is a big one. This CLDC is specifically focused upon Operation Cobra. That's its single focal point.

• It features a Nashorn. These were never present on the WF in France or the Low-Countries and only seen in the EF and IT campaigns. The StuG IV, Marder, and Jagdpanzer were far more prevalent in that AO at the time. Even the Hetzer was engaged in combat in the AO. But no, none of these are present.

• The Germans have an Opel and PoL but the US lacks the Willy's, CCKW, WC-51 and many others.

• M4A1 Shermans are the dominate vehicle in the CLDC when M4A3's were far more common at the time. Especially during Cobra.

• How many variants of the of the Pz. III do you need? The answer is none. There were only 30 in theater at the time and they were solely relegated to training units. They never, ever, ever, saw combat. Ever.

• The Tiger in game is an H1. H1's were the early production model that first saw combat at Prokhorovka (Kursk) and not the E model that was present in theater. It should also be noted that no Tigers were present during Cobra either.

• Cobra was an operation fought primarily by AFV's and LT's. No M-3's, no M-5's, no Sd.Kfz.234, no Greyhounds, no Luchs, none of that. Nothing. The vehicles and the crews that fought so hard and desperately during Cobra aren't even represented.

Every bit of kit, uniform, vehicle, gear, and AFV are so clean that it looks like everything just rolled straight off the assembly line. It's immersion breaking and lazy texturing. The Tiger's barrel and mantlet is so poorly modeled you can literally count the tri's and vert's on it. The 190 A-6 looks like freeware/mod quality, and the RAL's look off for most of the Heer vehicles, though the latter could be due to lighting.

This list is a mishmash of sorts, I get that. But it is very clear at this point that the IFA team is filled with a hodgepodge of talent, and the initial direction was the Eastern Front and not the West.

This thing is a mess...

Well, I mean, it's ARMA3 with WW2 assets and mission-design (generally speaking). With all that that implies.

Rimmy Downunder and his crew played the campaign multipayer, and he posted highlights below, as a demonstration of all that that implies:

"WHAT KIND OF MAGIC DID I JUST WITNESS!"
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.

Having spent quite a lot of time with ARMA 3 these past couple of weeks I've come to a complete 180 on my opinions of this game.

Absolutely hate it and it's all due to the absolute toxicity and lack of compassion of the ARMA 3 community.  Never have I experienced out right snobbery and high minded self puffing than with the people who play ARMA 3.  I'm not referring to anyone here, but the community I've run into in the outside world.

Care to be more specific?  I happen to agree with you but I'm wondering what led you to
that conclusion.
