I had some friends over for a game day yesterday.  I'm a crusty old Gen Xer and they're millenials and zoomers. When we have game days, they take over my spotify account and play random stuff.

Normally, I'm ok with it but yesterday's selection was...well, let's just say if anyone questions why it was good that the Axis powers lost WWII, I present this song as evidence as to why Germany and Japan had to be defeated.  This is a collaboration between some German weirdos (Dieter from Sprockets was supposed to be satire, not something to emulate) called @Electric Callboy and Japanese "band"/sweaty fan service group Babymetal.


The result should be cause for a reopening of trials at Nuremburg.

Babymetal actually has some pretty banging songs.

I just saw the live concert version of their song Kingslayer from Tokyo last November. Fuggin awesome!  They need to make more of this and less of that weird Daft Punk stuff.

The new Babymetal songs have gotten me back to studying Japanese more diligently and checking out a bunch of bands that are new to me.  It seems like Babymetal's success really opened the door for other female acts that wanted to break out of the J-Pop idol genre. 

Some metal bands that I'm enjoying are Hanabie and Nemophilia.

I'm also digging a group called Band-Maid.  It's five women who dress up in sexy maid outfits (well, this singer seems to go for a hostess outfit with garters...I approve)  They're straddling the line between hard rock and metal.  I was watching some of their videos on YT and saw that people kept recommending a recording of a live concert they did.  It's a bit rough at first, but there bass/guitar battle that the girls put on halfway through the show was great!  (and the lead singer is kinda hot.  Needs an Invisalign or something though...)

I try to jot down the lyrics and translate them as a way to practice the language.  This vid has English subtitles but I think they were done by something like Google translate as sometimes, they seem off to me.
