Looks amazing.  Maybe that rare beast.....insta-buy.

It's definitely not Dangerous Waters.  It reminds me of a modern Fleet Command, similar to how Cold Waters is a modern Hunt for Red October.  It's a 100% insta-buy for me.

What exactly do you mean by this? More complex than dangerous waters? Closer to command modern operations with 3d graphics?

No, I mean the opposite.  I think it's a slimmed down version of Command Modern Operations.  If you remember the old Fleet Command game, it was like CMO or Harpoon, but with 3D graphics.  But the complexity was greatly simplified compared to CMO or Harpoon.  Just like Cold Waters is a much simpler submarine simulation compared to Dangerous Waters.

I could be wrong of course.  But Dangerous Waters is more like Silent Hunter - you are in the sub (or plane or ship) and work various stations in that single platform.  I didn't see anything like that in the videos.

Personally, I'm all for a streamlined, simpler simulation.  CMO is fine, but I don't need that level of fidelity anymore.  This looks like it will be a perfect game for me.  Campaign?  YES!!! Sign me up!

I see. Kinda what I expected. I still like the really high fidelity. But like you, I can compromise if the game is fun and still suspends my disbelief.
My RTS games are a really good example of that, I compromise to get the human element as well as being able to play in a reasonable time frame into my games.

It looks pretty meaty in those videos.  It reminds me a lot of Harpoon, but with graphics, and Harpoon was definitely complex.  I'm looking forward to playing it.  I'm sure it's going to be a keeper for me.

I also am very enthusiastic about a campaign.  That's something I've always wanted in one of these games, something that links the missions together.

The more I see of this game, the more I certainly like.

Looks as Fleet Command on steroids. But looks scripted or set-piece instead of sandbox at times. For example in this video, https://youtu.be/fS25SReO9lc?si=QWTQewErD0xEXOcb how the Iranian F-4s got over Musandam Peninsula (action from 18:40)? Oman had functioning armed forces in 1985 and wasn't allied to Tehran. Perhaps it was the scenario creator "catchy" idea?

Out of curiosity whats the difference between this game and cold waters?
If you had to pick one why
From my surface skim of the two they seem similar

JasonPratt

Oversimply: Cold Waters is a spiritual remake of Red Storm Rising so it's about running cold war subs.

This game runs all platforms above and below water. CW devs broke up and some of them did this game, which is meant to be an expansion of the gameplay in CW.

I dont think the inspiration for the scenario will need explaining

Same. It looks like a spiritual successor/carbon updated copy of FC. Which, to be clear, is WONDERFUL.
