How does an air attack on Iran actually work?

That should be outside the range of the fighters. There are no outright friendly countries in between to have tankers hover over.

Did they get permission from the Saudis? Are they above Iraq with fighter cover and hope for the best? Am I wrong and enough external tanks make the range work?

Reports today was 100 Fighter Bombers. Don't know if that's true or not. Israel has hit targets in Yemen before which should be about the same distance or maybe even further. I think it's even money that Iran will sit on this one and not strike back. They do not want a Tit For Tat back and forth with Israel over this.

Yes, but you can attack Yemen from Israel by flying over the Red Sea. Your tankers don't have to hang out in somebody else's airspace.

I would imagine 100 Israeli fighter bombers would be enough to make Syria or Iraq look the other way. The Saudis probably would be happy about the whole thing. One thing for certain. If the Iranians got a page about the strike about to happen...nobody answered it.

They could never strike with 100 aircraft. Israel doesn't have the tanker capability to support that large of a force.

I think the report was that 100 aircraft were involved. That would include a lot of support aircraft other than the strike component.
