Saw the Admiral on another thread helping comment about an upcoming game soon. Don't recall exactly where, but in the past week.

Update: apparently I saw older posts in a thread I hadn't ready recently! Forum engine says The Admiral hasn't posted on the forum since late this January.
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.
RobO Q Campaign Generator -- archived classic CMBB/CMAK tool!

Also MIA with the Admiral are Sir Andrew D (not since Feb13) & GDS Star_Fury (Apr29). I wonder if comments were made that offended them?
Mostly harmless

Star is on administrative leave, for now. Thought I saw Sir Andrew more recently, but I suspect I was just reading old threads.  :undecided:

Saw this tidbit while browsing the TFA discussions on the Steam page:

QuoteAs for the others who remain, thanks for staying put and for your kind patience. We're a couple weeks away from the announcement.

...and that was on Oct 2nd.  Hopefully some news "soon".

Big update today.

Kickstarter was an unexpected choice.  I'm a little sad to see the Kickstarter campaign won't open until Q1 2025 as that means the game will be even later than that.  Oh well.  It looks like it's shaping up well.  I just hope they add the ability to play as the Japanese soon.

I didn't read the whole thing, but I'm pretty confused by this. Why would a developer with the backing of a publisher like Microprose even consider a KS campaign? I don't recall ever seeing something like that before.

They said they weren't doing it to raise funds as they already have alternative revenue and funding streams.  From what I can gather, the main focus of the Kickstarter is for the production of a 1990s style physical boxed set with a thick manual, maps, keyboard overlays, etc.

Hmmm...board game publishers, particularly non-wargame ones have been doing KS for years...starting to spill over into wargames now.

My miniature/fantasy gamer friends salivate over new KS campaigns and think nothing of sending KS $100 for the latest iteration of some boardgame with plastic dragons and demons.

I guess it's one way to feed the kids if you are still far away from something that is releasable. This project has been going on so long I gotta believe the bills are piling up.

But isn't that what a publisher is for, at least, in part? To pay the bills of the developer so they can keep developing? Otherwise, why have a publisher at all?

I would normally agree...  Maybe the publisher is out of patience?  Maybe they don't want to do Early Access because it eats into full price sales?  Maybe it's just the new way... Capitalism 101 says it's always better to spend someone else's money than your own when you can. Maybe they just figure that if folks are willing to back the project...why not?

As I said, the board game publishers are drifting in that direction, and seem to be having success.

I love old school MiceoProse boxes. I would definitely back this.

Still don't understand why they don't just sell that directly at a premium. I wonder if maybe Microprose refused to back that.

It's a sign of the passion they have for the project if they are trying to outsource this component because it was refused internally. Kinda makes sense as well. I'd imagine the company executives groaning at the thought of complicating release so much and imagining the community whinging about the huge cost advertised. Especially if it's going to be direct through steam. I wonder if steam is the problem here.

I asked them about it on Steam and they got pretty grouchy. I think what you say makes sense. There's just something... off about the whole thing to me.

Ok have not posted here in forever. This has always felt overambitious and reeks of a scam/vaporware. Never had a good vibe from that guy "Admiral" this game has been talked about for years and years and still nothing.
