Armored Brigade II Announced from Matrix - 3D

Played over lunch today. Used scenario generator to set up a small company level battle.

I set it up as a pair of US mech infantry platoons defending against a Soviet mech attack.

I had the defenders and lost.

I was impressed with the AI. It used smoke well, and effectively flanked me. For example, it hushed up one of my machine guns by dropping smoke in front of it.

I was also impressed with the ease of setting up the scenario. Map selection is nearly endless, but based on real-world terrain. I think the game hits a nice sweet-spot kind of missed by the Combat Mission x2 games. Also scenario generation is much faster and easier than Second Front for example.

Replay value is extremely high...and that gentlemen is not hyperbole.

I can see that I will be playing this game for quite a while.

I liken it to a good tabletop minis game like bolt action
You can clearly build the terrain into your tactical plans by using the 3d
That being said the models as have been pointed out are very simple (for deliberate purposes)
I think this game would really hit it out of the park with a wider audience if it was able to use a high graphics engine - it's eye candy but that's an important part of the immersion factor

It reminds me of the Micro-armor games I played in my youth (1/285th scale lead miniatures).

Used my anniversary coupon to get this! Plus it was already on 10% sale so, score!  I like the tabletop miniatures analogy as I used to do that a lot when I was younger (though more WW2 than modern).  Still have my microscale armor around somewhere.

Tractics!!! My first micro-armor rules: WWII rules. Very wonky. Where I learned the fundamentals of ballistics. Actually had a full-page chart that adjusted armor thickness for armor slope. TSR and Gary Gygax

Thanks for the heads-up on this!  AB2 is one of my current favorite games I'm playing right now and I highly recommend this game to anyone who would enjoy a smoother-running version of a Combat Mission-type WEGO game!
