We have a first world crisis on our hands. I'm totally out of book storage space and yet, I cannot help myself, so I continue to buy them. There is something about used books that I just love and the serendipity of discovering and getting a great deal on some obscure book on German armor on the Eastern Front or some random technical manual on the F-105 Thunder Chief must release some crazy powerful endorphin in my brain. 

My wife insists on my books not spilling out of select areas in the house and so I'm really out of traditional options. As you can see from the photos below, the books are overflowing on the shelves and now cluttering up the floors. I've also had to start storing books in the garage, which although fairly climate controlled, is not a location I would prefer to shelve my collection.

So I'm looking for unconventional ideas on maximizing the shelf space I have available and possibly finding some magical way to organize the books so as to permit as many to be stored and displayed as possible.

Any brilliant suggestions?

An impressive collection.  The only advice I can give you is to NOT get rid of the books.
I gave my library away to a used book store during covid (we were "downsizing")......
I regret it to this day.  Their mere presence is oddly comforting....

I used to have 25 running meters of history and computer books. I just made the shelf the centerpiece of the living room.
