Started Normandy '44 by James Holland.  Not too far in but I do like the insights he gives into some of the personalities and the figures he has presented for what the Germans needed to do the Atlantic Wall the way they wanted to was incredible.

Just finished,

The Price of Glory: Verdun 1916, by Alistair Horne

This is a "classic" (originally published in 1962) telling of the Battle of Verdun.

Verdun was the epitome of the WWI "meatgrinder" battle. It lasted 10 months, and caused 700,000 casualties on both sides.

The book is a good telling of the battle, and I recommend for the general reader. If there was one book to describe the horrors of trench warfare, this would be a good one.

This is another good one:
The Imperial Japanese Army: The Invincible Years 1941–42
by Bill Yenne

It looks really deep, especially at some mid-level personalities who shaped the period. Very insightful
