MicroProse returns into bowels of M1A2 - they acquired rights to a legacy "Spearhead" Abrams sim from 1998 of which I've never heard and never played it. They also announce a modern sequel: "Take full control of meticulously detailed tanks, IFVs, and APCs—each with fully modeled, functional interiors and realistic handling. From turret to treads, every switch matters."

Man, you just beat me to the punch.

Looks like Gunner, Heat has some competition! Love that the interiors are modeled. That's a major feature missing from Gunner, Heat, PC.

This is the kind of stuff that Microprose should be focusing on.

I saw infantry in the trailer. Well one AT guy at least.

Would be rather strange if there is no infantry when they intend to simulate IFVs and APCs in addition to tanks.

Indeed, maybe we finally get a proper remake of the classic M1 Tank Platoon 1/2?
I wonder if they dare to simulate modern battlefield drones?

It looks promising, would say the success will depend upon how well the AI is implemented and if it can pose a realistic and passable challenge without cheating. They are going to severely limit their player base if they don't allow AI competent enough to be commanded lone wolf, simply focusing on co-op only will immediately cut out many players.  I wonder how odd it's going to be though to have vehicle on vehicle action only without the use of infantry.  Thanks for the heads up added to my watchlist.

That's what I was thinking.

Unlikely, the original Spearhead was an arcadey mess of a thing if I recall. I love how they're not giving us what we really want, M1 Tank Platoon 3, but rather a sequel to a rather forgettable tank game from the era. What's next, Wargasm 2?

That may be a bit of a harsh assessment given the game was just announced today and is very clearly in an early state of development. Gunner, Heat, PC isn't exactly what I would call an authentic sim-like experience either.

Nevertheless, I do agree that news of M1 Tank Platoon 3 would have been much more welcome, and being that they must have the license for it, I would be unpleasantly surprised if it was not already in the works.

Well, I have to say it doesn't look like an arcadey mess! Maybe this really is supposed to be M1A2 3, but they somehow lost the rights to make more of those, and this was their solution?

^ I could be totally wrong, but it looks like an M1A2 SEPV2. Which went into service in 2008. It is a very modern, digital version of the tank and can kick a lot of ass. It is definitely post Cold War.
