This news was expected but not unwelcome really. Med 3 being so far away and all.
We will not see if 40k total war is any closer.
Give. Their is apparently a steam page up for the 40k game it should be closer than med3.

Well then their is dawn of war 4. So if both games are on the same timeline for release. I think dow4 is going to lose a lot of it's potential buyers.

This 40k announcement on the back of med3 just announced as not even being started confirms to me that total war is a very long way from being historically focussed and it's roots. Total war has been consumed by fantasy and superpowers.

P.S. Just remembered they made sure the latest engine was console compatible... another downer. But then AOEIV is on console is it not. Pastels and complexity      of interface... errr not.

While this may ultimately prove to be a disappointment, it could just possibly be my dream game. The in-game footage, while clearly looking early and rough, has tremendous potential.

If this really comes together it could be the last game I'll ever need!  Hopefully the Emperor protects.

Fingers crossed, this title is something friends and I talked about may years ago and hoped for. With CA and GW you just know that these days their will be a lot of politics as well. Both companies are UK based and both too large now to be left alone. Games are now a battlefield. I hope they don't lean into the politics and just serve us the canonical lore in it's most basic form. GW have been influenced by hollywood recently with that whole Henry Cavill thing and the female custodes. I imagine custodes will be in 40k total war and can imagine the internet blowing up over it. Those sorts of things could make the release a very bumpy ride and I hate trying to sort through all that to get the real game news, game mechanics, maps, graphics, tactical options etc.
I am guessing a 40k tv show will come out around the time these games hit (dowIV/40k total war) and might cause even more controversy. It's gonna be a wild ride unless by chance a good job is done all round in all these titles, ignoring the politics and simply focussing on the grim dark future sans marketting depts ad lobbiest involvement in the hobby over the last X years since it became mainstream.

I hope they do trenches for the imperial guard. It will be interesting to see how the engine handles tanks and the new cover system. Graphically I am super worried, as most of you will know from my previous total war posts about not being able to enjoy watching my men fight and getting those tactile feedback signals in battle with even a little zoom out.

The audiences are base level console and PC gamers. Not those who would wish to play something new and ground breaking that already know the games. Dawn of War IV is probably the same, I think they mentioned consoles as well.
