Funny you should say this. I downloaded war thunder again to check the ships out again.

Naval Action also just release a new $70 ship. Pretty neat for a game which I assume has 66 players online in my timezone at the moment. The devs though as I understand it are still very passionate about their game. Good on them. Still the best age of sail naval game around.

I've not too much memory of games of yore per se other than being irrationally angry and rage-quitting "Tie Fighter," when on one mission, the pursued ship turned back towards my Star Destroyer while I kept shooting at it so yes, technically, I was firing on my own ship for just a couple of shots. But a juke or two and the rebel ship was a smoking hulk in short order.  Mission accomplished!

Did they fob it off and say, "Hey, it's just a Tie Fighter - no harm, no foul," or "Hey man, nice shot."  No.  Bastards laid into me with laser fire.  The precious seconds I stared incredulously at the incoming fire indicator were enough to seal my fate and erase my spouse's SGLI in short order.  Assholes.

But that was what made xwing and tie fighter great. I finished all of the series and addons iirc. The missions were crazy hard sometimes and so exacting like you illustrated. But it was an achievement imho to finish the games. As I recall their was one difficulty level. So you knew if somebody finished the game they were a fair stick. Xwing and the tie fighter games are probably some of my favourite memories from gaming as well. They were just so well done to the point where I expected the new movies to be AS GOOD as the games in terms of dialogue and feel. They never got that back with the new star wars movies or even star wars squadrons.

Oh yes, definitely this!  I was such a noob that I didn't know how to get the score to register, so I asked in chat and some kind soul told me to hit F4, which disconnected me from the server...

I just had my highest single kill count in a game of War Thunder today.  I got 23 kills in coastal naval without losing my boat.  My team still somehow managed to lose the match with the remaining 14 players getting a whopping 5 kills amongst themselves.

Sorry for the late response. For some reason I was banned for the last 3 months or so. I had my kid clear my cache (?) and that seemed to work.

The first PC game I ever saw was Polic Quest at a friend's house around 1986-87-ish. I thought it was the greatest thing I ever saw. It was the scenario where you responded to a disturbance at the biker bar. You were supposed defend yourself with your baton. (now where is that baton located at again?!!)

My next greatest memory was walking through the mall and going past Electronics Boutique. They had a display PC set up with these separate speakers and a normal sounding British accented voice was coming out of them. It was coming from a game called Sherlock Holmes.

This was incredible! Earth shattering! Sensational!

It had actual sound just like on a TV and it was all because this device called a Sound Blaster. I needed to have THAT! If my memory serves me, it was around $149.99. I had to wait at least a year before I saved enough money to purchase it. You should've heard the lasers from Tie Fighter on that! (or was it X-wing?

It was a simpler time, my friends.
